Best place to buy detent balls? And correct size?

Well, I'm pretty sure it came out because of the flaming of the ti handles. I've heard other reports of similar issues when flaming ti frame locks. My guess is the heat was enough to expand either the hole the ball sits in or the ball itself forcing it slightly out of the hole. Either way, I'm almost positive that taking a torch to it is what did it.

Ahh sorry I didn't read the whole OP. Yep that'll do it! Hope you get it fixed up.

Yes, they come out from time to time. They are easy to get from custom knife supply houses, like K&G, Sheffield, Texas Knife Makers, ect.. It may come out again. In your case when installing the new one give it 2 taps with a nail set. Then try it. DM

Thanks for the tips. Definitely sounds like I'll be able to handle it myself. Can you confirm that 1/16 is in fact the correct size?

No, it is not. I've built many knives using them and have not used that size. The normal size is smaller. Those sites will give you the size. DM

Well the only size sold at Texas Knife Makers is 1/16, so I'm gonna go ahead and assume that it's a pretty common size.

Makers use different sizes. A 1/16 could sure be a 'common' size in production knives. Those things are small, get several as you'll drop them or they roll off the bench and disappear. They come with instructions on what size drill to use. You may have to drill a different hole inorder to keep one in place. If so just make sure the new one will come into contact with the dent on the blade during rotation as drilling a new dent
would be a bear on hardened steel. DM

Hey guys, just a quick update, I finally got around to getting my sage 2 fixed up today. I can confirm the correct size ball is in fact 1/16. Installation was easy enough, a quick couple taps with a hammer using a t10 torx driver as a nail set and I was all fixed up. This really is a VERY easy fix. Just thought some of you might like to know for reference.

MK, Great. Watch it carefully for the next few days to make sure it stays in place. I was hoping you'd think it was an easy fix. DM
