I have been looking into a SMF Tanto but they seem to be sold out everywhere. I am in Canada, but I doubt that I will find one in Canada. Anybody know a good place to get a Strider SMF Tanto? I also want the tiger striped blade and black or ranger green handle. What is the price that I could expect one of these to cost me?

Thanks,

Gideon

Where to buy questions do not belong in General Knife Discussion, that is why we have an entire section dedicated to sales, buying, and trading. Moving this there now For starters, check the dealers link in my signature space to get a rough idea who the good dealers are, go from there.

I think I posted something awhile back in the market section (canada) and not sure if it was every approved because it got no views. So, wasn't sure where to post it this time. Thanks I will check out your signature.

Not sure about where to buy in Canada but I would really try to handle it prior to purchasing (or buy it from a BF dealer, they will treat you right)...they are well known for having issues. I got lucky and bought a used one off of the big auction site, before I was aware of their issues, and it turned out perfect but that seems to be the exception and not the rule. Seems like most people that get a "good one" keep it

Not sure about the tiger stripe blades but True North Knives has some tanto SMFs in s110v satin blades and they have a Canadian distributer. I got my PT from them.

The individual Production/Custom forums here and their FB page have been my best places to search for Striders.

Striders come out in batches and tantos aren't often in it.

True north knives is good to go. Blue line gear, monkey edge. Expect to pay like $450-$550 although prices seem to be going up for things like cerakoting stainless steel... Just wait patiently for the one that you absolutely want, and don't settle because you'll end up buying more than you actually need or want. Strider tantos may look cool but don't cut too well on the front edge and are harder to sharpen.
Best of luck!

As Lefty mentioned-Striders are done in batches, so certain configurations may not be available at this time. Strider has a list of dealers on their website if you care to look through them. Dealers that support the forum are always a good place to start and will treat you well.

For me, the strider would be a combat blade. Something that I would always have strapped to my leg in a combat situation. ATM, for me that is a ZT 0560BW, I looked at the zt 0301 but it seemed to heavy, so then I looked at the strider. Only thing is, they are kinda expensive so I would hate if I lost it XD

They have strong pocket clips. Also, I carry my SMF in a custom made belt sheath, really frees up the pocket space for phone, keys, other knife etc. The 0301 is kind of heavy but it is a fantastic knife. Had one, sold it, ended up buying another because I missed it.

Are you in the Canadian military, and how do you strap a folder to your leg? If it were in a mag pouch on a thigh holster I would say it should be pretty secure. I am not aware of any other methods that I would consider secure for carrying a folding knife on leg. A fixed blade I could see, but I'd rather keep a folder in a pocket or a pouch.

Best of luck.

Are you in a combat situation now, or plan to be soon?

You may want to look into military discounts. Maybe one of the members can help you there. I know they exist, but little else about them.

Strapped was just an improper term, sorry. I meant in a pocket always on me. Not "strapped" like a side arm or a fixed blade.

There is no current Strider dealer in Canada, TNK closed their Canadian distribution center a long time ago.....

I would recommend the exchange, there are some great deals to be had right now.

As far as dealers go, Blue Line Gear is my personal favourite, but that's just my opinion....

Make sure that regardless of where you purchase the knife from, the pivot is tight so Customs doesn't decide it's a gravity knife and keeps it. I have lost one Strider this way....

I've dealt with Blue Line Gear, Monkey Edge and True North Knives and have no problem recommending any of the three.
