I don't want to get anyone in trouble for deal spotting, so maybe someone can PM me if that is better, but can anyone tell me the best and cheapest place to get good static line? I'm looking to buy by the foot if possible and would like an online vendor. Thanks in advance!

Are you going caving? Do you want it just for abseiling or making "tirolines"? Just curious... Not many things out there that requiere static rope! I can't help you out because being form Spain shipping would probably kill you anyway... :D

campmor usually has bluewater line, but only in 150 or 300 ft hanks. It's good stuff, though - I've had mine for a while & it's still going strong.

IIRC, I bought some Blue-Water static line by the foot from REI.
I bought it at the store, but I would think that it would be on their website also.

Thanks guys. Mikel, I want to use it with a prussic knot as a fall arrest from a tree stand for bow hunting.

Make sure you match the main line and prussic knot cord thickness correctly and test it at ground level... If you don't mind spending a bit more of money I would suggest you the use of a Wild Country Ropeman. Simple and inexpensive rope ascender with better grip than the Petlz Tibloc (nothing wront with this thing but it may slip a bit before it gets a good grip and somehow shreds the ropes badly after a lot of use). If you get the Ropeman, get the older model, the one with serrated pattern aluminum locking part instead of the pointy steel one (this one also chews on the ropes like you wouldn't believe).

How do you plan to tie yourself? Do you already have a harness? If not the BD Alpine Bod (non padded, just one bucle, available in three sizes) is one of the best bangs for the buck out there. It is also black so it won't ruin your camuflage and you can put it on with big boots/crampons/skis/snow shoes on.

just make sure you get "dynamic" climbing rope - it has a bit of stretch and is designed for fall arrest
using a "static" line will result in extremely high stopping forces as it doesnt have any "give" to absorb the shock, this force can break stuff like the rope, carabiners, harnesses etc

... and your spine... what really worries me a bit more than gear :D :D

What Echo says it is absolutly true when you may fall and there is some slack in the rope. If there isn't any slack (you are pretty much hanging from the rope) you are safe. There is a third kind of rope between the dinamic climbing rope and the static one. It is somewhat semistatic and it is the rope of choice for those who work suspended in vertical jobs (building cleaning, etc). It has a bit of give but no as much as the dinamic ropes.
