I'm looking for some place to get stabilized cow shin bone, specificy some that is died to a mellow brown/cream color. I've had good sucess with soaking in coffie. Great color, but still prone to cracking. Would stabilization toughen it up? I've got an order for 4 folders with this material and would like to prevent cracking or make it so it's not quite so easy to break.

Thanks

Don't know anywhere to buy cattle bone already stabilized. You could always dye it the color you prefer then send it off for stabilization. Unless it absolutely has to be cattle bone then check out www.giraffebone.com, their products are excellent and are already stabilized.

Giraffe and camel bone are much denser than cow bone. Both are available from the suppliers and other sources.
If you like the look you have been getting with cow bone, make up a batch, and send it to WSSI after it is completely dry. You might want to try alcohol based wood dyes for the color. They come as a powder and can be mixed anywhere from so thin that it barely tints the bone to as dark as you want. They dry faster, and do not affect the stabilization as much as water based dyes can. Check Woodcraft or any woodworking supplier.
