Now maybe I'm the last one to know and you've already found this out. The Surefire website www.surefire.com is selling 3V lithium 123 batteries for $15.00/12 pack. $1.25 per battery, that is even less than I have been paying at another site on the web. Good time to stock up.

Mith.

Yup, it's been posted before already.

Note that this is Surefire's regular price now. No need to go crazy. :)

Wow. That's a really good price. Let me order that...

:p

I do not get it. Are they selling at a loss or were prices just hyper-inflated to begin with. None of the other brands appear to be dropping their prices. I am guessing that surefire was loosing sales to the camera stores. It is also hard to figure out the pricing structure. Are they lowering battery prices to sell more expensive flashlights or will they come out with less expensive flashlights that burn more batteries?

I also want to see if this trickles down to the "recoil proof" units. Taping my own batteries together is such a drag.

SureFire Chops Battery Prices 300%
- SureFire Makes High-Energy Lithium Batteries Affordable -

Surefire SF 123A Batteries Image

Dear SureFire Customer,

For years we've been aware that the drawback to owning a high-performance flashlight was the cost of operating it - after all, those lithium batteries are not cheap. Ever since we first introduced the lithium battery-powered flashlight, we've pursued a variety of strategies to bring the cost of those batteries down for the end-user, including the manufacture of our own private-label SF123s.

Now -- thanks to you -- we have the buying power needed to negotiate even lower prices based on larger volume. And, instead of keeping battery prices where they are, we've decided to go all the way by cutting our margins to the bone and passing the savings directly to you.

Purchase SureFire brand lithium batteries direct from SureFire for only $1.25 each when purchasing a box of 12 or a bulk pack of 72. Yes, you read that correctly, $15 for a box of 12 and $90 for a bulk pack of 72 (shipping not included).

The alkaline battery is dead, long live King Lithium!

Best regards,

It's my understanding that SF is selling them direct for what they were charging dealers.
I'm sure that dealers aren't happy about it, especially if they have inventory left over. I have little sympathy for the slaying of their golden goose, seeing that I paid ~$43 with shipping for a dozen from a dealer last time, and just got THREE dozen from SF for $49.99:D

The problem is that SureFire dropped the prices on the batteries and are selling them at BELOW our previous costs. Considering that SureFire didn't have the greatest profit margins to begin with, this latest move is certainly a pisser.

It wasn't a golden goose by any means, but it was a nice accessory to sell with the lights. Now, it's just lost income, and dead inventory.

I agree with you. Surefire should issue you some kind of credit for the price difference then you could sell them for the same cost.

I brought up that exact issue with SureFire at SHOT show, and was told they'd see what they can do. A month later and still nothing. I guess I'm just going to have to do a "package deal" on flashlights and frigging give the batteries away.

I'm just happy we weren't holding 100+ G2's when the price dropped on them.

I was being a little sarcastic about the golden goose thing. Naturally, as a consumer, I'm happy to benefit from the better prices, because it means I can use my E2e alot more without worrying about burning up expensive batteries (I use it so much that even with the KL1 this was a concern for me), but if I were a dealer, I'd be mad, and I really can sympathize with having the rug pulled out from under you. That was a low blow from them, IMO, and really doesn't give me the urge to buy more of their stuff. They could have at least warned you guys, ahead of time, so you could clear your inventory. That's one of those weird things...a good business move that could lead to more sales of the lights, but a bad one for alienating the people who make alot of those sales. Loyalty and integrity should be worth more than a few bucks.
Didn't know they were lower than previous dealer cost. It would be one thing if you could at least break even on remaining stock. Making the dealers who sell their products take a loss is bad business.

Yeah, dealer cost used to be $24 per 12, or $2400 if you bought 1200 at a time.

Now, we pay the same you guys do. Nice, huh?

Want to place any bets on when they're going to pull the same trick with the prices on their flashlights?

If I were a flashlight dealer I wouldn't want to keep a large stock of Surefire flashlights in inventory ... not after this.

I'm still trying to figure out how prices can drop 300%. That is mathematically impossible...

Good deal on batteries though...

While I was reading this a news story was on TV stating that Ray-o-vac was dropping its battery prices 30% to match Duracell. Maybe there's something going on in the battery industry?
