whats the best priced mid-tech/semi custom knife in the market for around 200-400 dollars in your guys opinion

Freeman 451 BLF, though the definition of mid-tech has become murky enough that I'm not sure many would consider it that.

Folder or fixed?

yeah this knife has been on my want list for a bit now, but the whole mid-tech thing is pretty murky but yeah ill get one of these eventually. but since im saving up for my next grail i can't really afford to get a knife in that price range right now.

Hinderer XM-18. A year or so ago they were ridiculously priced $500++, but now you can find one LNIB for $350 and sometimes even lower. A very well built knife, but not for everybody, they tend to be a bit too heavy/heavy-duty for some.

Easy answer: The one you like that fits your needs.
This holds true for any knife regardless of price; production, semi-custom, or custom.
What works well for George, may be completely wrong for Harry.

Vote for the Freeman, either Jeff or Matt!!!

LOL, I'm not building folders until I learn Fusion360.

Crazy Vague....I would love to help, but what does "best priced" mean?

The cheapest "mid-tech" ?

First, we're going to have to define what a "mid-tech" or "semi-custom" is.....that kinda differs for person to person, and I have no idea what you think fits that category.

Second, "best priced" and that's the only thing that matters? That's kinda tough, it's like going to a used car lot and asking for the cheapest car....

To Simplify, before "custom makers" jumped all over the "mid-tech" money machine, there where 3 makes that where generally considered when this topic came up;

Strider
Hinderer
CRK

All excellent knives.
All priced around the same $ used and new.

What you want out of a knife, and your personal taste not only aesthetically but functionally will determine which one you will like the best.

I picked up a few good suggestions in this thread, thanks. My Freeman is on the way. I read it as "Anyone have suggestions for a folder in the $200-$400 range?"

The CFK Sukhoi has to be one of the best folders for under $400. It's fit and finish is better then some customs.

What materials did you choose?

You'll have to let us know how you like it, I think you'll dig it a lot.

Not a mid-tech, but limited production, and can be had for your price, though last I saw one go for right at $400. ZT 0600. In my opinion, it is definitely on par with many custom knives, and blows some mid-techs out of the water. I (dare I say it  ) may even compare the quality to Chris Reeve's knives!

For the materials and construction, it is just a beautiful piece, and though discontinued, it is worth seeking out.

I have to agree with @Nfd538 about the brand CKF in general. I have a couple of them and all are very well build with great fit finish. But, Reate has some models that compete very well in this price range. But, then again, since today i have gotten the new model of the Chinese brand Real Steel, the S571 Pro and this one beats every knife i had in this price range so far. Incredible fit & finish. Premium materials. And a supersmooth action like a Sebenza that's smoothened to its optimum. What a knife. I have never been more excited about a particular knife in this pricerange. But i think it will not entirely fit in the categorie of mid-tech...not sure about that. BTW the mentioned model is a very limited production run of only 599 pieces. And not available yet at most dealers. I was lucky.
