I am going to start washing and "detailing" cars for friends and family to make some money. I have been looking into high end products but to start I dont want to invest too much. I will be working on a good range of cars such as, brands like Fords, Toyotas, Hondas etc. And luxury cars such as BMWs,mercedes benz, Lexus, and Audis. I have been leaning towards Meguiars, because from what I have read they used to be the go-to cleaning supplies for MB and are well liked by exotic car owners ( Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc.) For now I am going to focus on only exterior detailing before investing in products for interior work. The kit that is my top choice currently is Meguiars Gold Class Wash & Clay Bucket Combo . Like I said I am unfamiliar with car care products so any of you who own a car that you take great car of please help me out :)
My budget for starting is 40-60 dollars!
Thank you so much!

Mothers..

Most dealerships have an independant supplyer that they buy their stuff from.. See if you can hook up with one of those.. You need to buy bulk product or the material costs will kill ya.. I sold detailing products and detailed cars so I kinda have an idea.. JMO!! Hope this helps.. John

Adams. Best I have ever used. Period. Pricy though. Standard grade stuff, I like mothers and meguires. Eagle 1 makes some really good stuff too.

Big fan of Blitz One Grand. Worked in a dealership that had Rolls and Bentley; we stocked Blitz at the request of the Rolls club members
as it is not available @ retail stores.

Super easy on and off, great shine, beads water for 6 mos.

And guys I dont really know what is needed for a shiny great exterior. Like wax, polish, clay bars? What is a must to have??

I have the full range of care products, including the application and polishing cloths .My regime is wash/shampoo/rinse/dry/clay bar/polish/canuba wax.

Since I am only using 40 dollars what should I buy to start washing peoples cars? ( until I can buy more products)

What Adams products would I need for a great exterior?

Adams clay bar is excellent. Mothers clay bar is great as well. The brilliant glaze is great. Then the Americana paste wax is incredible. Then the detail spray is incredible. I use it all the time. Car wash is excellent as well. The interior detailed is also my favorite interior product. Their website is adamspolishes.com has great how- to and instructional videos and their customer service is great. I started using their products when I joined silveradoss.com forum, and it knocked my socks off. My truck is black, so keeping if clean and shiney is a priority. Like I stated before, I'm a big fan of mothers and meguires, but as great as they are, Adams blows them out of the water. But, I am warning you, it is not cheap.

Another awesome budget option is dura gloss. I love their car wash soap and the polish/wax is great. Very affordable too.

If you are only going to have a budget of 40-60 dollars, that does limit things. I'm assuming you won't be using a buffer ?
Clay bars work great, but unless you are charging quite a bit of $$$ for the detail, you want products that work reasonably well, and are quick to apply and remove.

As you get experience, you will find things you like and don't like. A good quality wash mitt or sponge is very important, as are good microfiber towels. Especially on cars with dark colored paint. A cheap wash mitt, or using cheap towels on dark colors can make even more work for you because they can scratch.

With your budget, I would get a good wash mitt, microfiber towels, a decent chamois, and a bottle of Meguiars compound, a bottle of polish, and a bottle of wax.
That should be within your budget, and be enough to get you started.

Another tip that will help on time spent is drying the car off way before the water even starts to dry. It doesn't take much for water spots to show up, but it can take a lot of work to remove them..

Meguiars is typically the better product. Also when you get tire shine products make sure they say protect/ conditions; so that you don't dry the tires out.

Pro tip: Use newspaper on the windows for streak-less windows. (of course outside only)
