Best rock album of the 90's

I would vote Demons and Wizards - Demons and Wizards, but it missed the 90's by 2 months.

So, going by what I listened to growing up, I'll have to jump on the Metallica -Metallica bandwagon (What is it with these album names?). I listened to that album so much while playing Final Fantasy 7, that I hear it in my head everytime I see the game. "Wherever I may roam..." :)

Ramstein's "Senshuct" was good as well.

I have no idea what the heck they are singing.......

NIN was good, as was Korn and Rage Against the Machine's "Evil Empire"

Bush "16 Stone" was a great CD...

Ah, Rammstein. Another great band.

You probably are better off not understanding their lyrics. The vast majority of their songs are not pleasant, to say the least...

Best album of the 90s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Greatest Hits. I've never even heard of the stuff you guys are listing...

This is a great post. I missed a few of these albums, so I’ll have to check them out. I’m always looking for new music (new to me).

How about: The Buffalo Skinners by Big Country? Not the best album of the 90’s, but worth listening to.

You're not the only one. I have heard of some of the bands, but don't have any of the albums listed and wouldn't recognize any songs from them.

I just looked through my collection of albums from the 90s. The only thing I have that anyone might call rock is two Johnnie Cash, American Recordings and Unchained.

Oversight!!!

Retract all my previous statements as I hang my head and and my rights as a Texas ex-pat living in Nevada are stripped away :o ..........Stevie Ray Vaughan's The Sky Is Crying was released posthumously on Nov. 5, 1991.

Although the tracks were recorded from 1984 - 1989 they were not released on any studio album prior to this. This means the album is not a "Best of" or a compilation/collection like Greatest Hits (1995), The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble (1995), The Real Deal: Greatest Hits Volume 2 (1999), Blues at Sunrise (2000), or SRV (box set) (2000) but a real 1990s release and prime contender for best of decade.

The Eagles also released Hell Freezes Over (#1 US) (#18 UK) in 1994 if anyone wants to thow in a live compillation with 4 new tracks as a contender......

So cool, finding an SRV thread,er,post, on Easter.
Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble were/are my all time favorites.
Guess that's all I have to say.
That and his playing set off the smoke detectors.
He was Hendrix and more, he was Stevie.

Happy Easter.

Doug :)
Edited to add,Family Style, his only album with his brother Jimmie,of Thunderbirds fame, and more importantly,Stevie's teacher was recorded in'90.The year Stevie died. They first played it at his funeral.Wall Street execs wept with outlaw bikers. Then Jackson Browne,Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Wonder sang Amazing Grace.

Soundgardens Superunknown. Black Hole Sun...

I am a little biased, probably my favorite band.

For just all out great songs that you can rock to though, probably Metallicas black album.

Then you have Nirvana Nevermind, Smells Like Teen Spirit is a great song. Or Pearl Jams first CD, the song Jeremy was pretty good.

The Offspring, Ixnay on the Hombre is one of my favorites too, Gone Away is one of my favorite songs.

When I saw "Best Rock Albums" That is what I was thinking of. Most of this other stuff would be more heavy metal, hard rock, head banging stuff. I grew up on classic rock and when I think of new rock in the 90's one name comes to mind, and (maybe not suprisingly) he kinda has that Stevie Ray twang.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Blue on Black

(That's Rock)

-SunRunner-

"I can still hear guitars in the air as we stood for the band........Holly Ann..

Boston Third Stage Rocks

Metallica-Metallica(BLACK)
Tool- Undertow
White Zombie-La Sexorcisto and Astro Creep 2000
STP was cool as well

And he has a ways to go and some mighty big boots to fill but I like him as well.

Wow...lots of great albums on this thread...and covering a huge decade of music! My picks from those previously listed:

COC...Blind
Pantera...Vulgar Display of Power
Alice in Chains...Dirt
Tool...Aenemia
White Zombie...La Sexorcisto and Astrocreep
Metallica..."self-titled" (and the start of Sell Out)
Death...Individual Thought Patterns

All phenomenal and awesome albums!

My additions:

NIN - The Fragile
Ministry - Filth Pig
Sepultura - Roots (!!!)
SLAYER - Seasons in the Abyss
Megadeth - Youthanasia

And (I may get some heat for this):

Marilyn Manson...Antichrist Superstar

Manson, the person, is a freak...I could care less about Brian Warner. But Antichrist Superstar is the pinnacle jewel of his collection. It helps that Trent Reznor (of NIN) produced this album, and you can really hear Reznor giving a lot of direction in this album vs. later Manson albums (where Warner separated from Trent because he didn't want to be in Reznor's shadow).
