Best rust preventative for blades?

I live on a salt water marsh. I got some Marine Tuf Cloth at Blade last year. It seems to last longer than any oils or waxes I have tried.

ive never put anything on any of my infi, even my users, i have only had a few spots of rust coloring on my fbm-le after forgetting it in the snow for over a week....came off with scotchbrite pad

I like RustFree, which is available from A.G. Russell.
It's a thick silicone gel. No discoloration, no staining, no rust.
Really great product IMO.

Just use a drop or two and smear it around with your finger until the
entire blade is coated. Dries nicely. I've had knives in storage for 2 years or
more without any reapplication, and the blades are as new.
(Includes O-1, L6, 5160 and others.)

.... until it goes rancid. :barf:

That is why people use mineral oil over food type oils. Mineral oil is one of the few oils that won't go rancid.

But, mineral oil is also used as a laxative, so careful. :o

.

I was making a joke, as was Din, to whom I was responding. My real answer was in post #8.

I use Ballistol for light oiling.

I also use Rig +P Stainless Steel Lube for satin or dc knives.

FAT-BACK of course!

I actually use a Tuff-Cloth on the knives that I know I will not be using with any foods. That includes my hunting blades. I hear it's not for ingestin', but it does work very well, though it is mineral spirit based if that's a concern.

I've been wanting to try RenWax, but haven't gotten around to ordering. Heard good things and I believe it is non-toxic. I wouldn't eat a handful of it, but I don't think a little will kill ya either.

The best method to avoid rust is to keep the blade dry and clean. Don't let it sit around with sap, water, Scotch, blood (an animal's or your's) or any other potential rust starter. To be honest lots of times this is all I do and I don't have any problems. And that goes for INFI and SR-101.
