For sharpening at home... what's a high end setup?

Thinking paper wheels and japanese water stone for home.

No clue what's good for the road. I have ceramic rods right now.

if you get the paper wheels, there will be no need for the waterstone. the ceramic rod works great for away from home. i have a small one that i carry in the truck. also a 2x72 belt works great if you have convex edges on your knives. if you are in the woods and need an edge redone, you string the belt between 2 trees that are close together and use it similar to a strop. you work up a burr and when you are done you filp the belt and use the backside as a strop.

to string the belt you will need a small stick going through the belt at each end to keep the belt flat.

DMT diafold is a nice folding two sided sharpener for the road.

I think paper wheels and water stones utlilize different techniques;
one is more for convexing, while the other is more for creating / maintaining bevels.

You can do both, but I'm not sure how efficient it would be to use both methods
on the same knife.
