I just recently bought my first "real" knife (a ZT0301) and I love it but I would like something quality that I can wear with dress pants to work. My parameters are that the blade be under 3.25 inches and the country of origin not be China or Taiwan.

Check out Moki. They come in a variety of material inlays.

For a little bit more you can get an Mcusta.

For a bit less, you can get a stainless steel Dragonfly.

For gentleman's knives that won't rip up your pants, look at the Kershaw Leek composite blade, Al Mar Falcon ultralight, the less expensive Mcusta's, and Spyderco Centofante 3.

there is one catch guys. I have a $45 credit at amazon.com so it has to be available from there :(.

I'm liking that Moki. I'll check out the Al Mar as well. The Leek was already on my radar, I'll take a closer look. why would you recommend the composite over the s30v version?

it's absolutely the Avalanche. S30V, G10, thick liners, very high quality execution. I got mine for $70 like 5 years ago, looks like they may be going for $80 now.

Oh, and it has AO and can be tip up or tip down.

The S30V version has G10 handles, which will tear at your pants a little. The smooth stainless steel of the composite blade version's handles won't. I also like the frame lock of the ss leeks better than the liner lock of the S30V version. Also, I think the composite blade one is a better value. It's significantly cheaper than the S30V version due to the composite blade feature, but the steel (CPM-D2) will hold an edge just as well as S30V. Just make sure you wipe down the blade after getting it wet, since D2 isn't stainless.

i wish they wouldn't have used that ugly swiggly pattern on the blade, but it does seem to be more suited for my needs.

I will third the leek. it is a great knife. i absolutely love the one that occasionally get to have for a few hours for maintenance. it disappears in the pocket, and is really comfy to hold. if you want something unique and you don't need D2, look at the smoke and Damascus versions. they are really cool looking, and they do not break the bank. the smoke Blems from kershawguy are 25 bucks shipped....

They seem to go for about $60 LNIB on ebay. I sold my flawless used Avalanche for $62 after shipping.

it has to be through amazon so i can use my store credit.

any thoughts on this knife ? Benchmade 530S Pardue Design (( deal-spotting ))

It's a good folder. However, it's very thin and light--definitely not going to be useful for anything heavy. But I like it a lot. Sort of the gentleman's minigrip (of that price range).

The 530S is partially serrated. Is that what you want? They are nice and light, and the Axis lock is always nice to have. REI used to sell one in bright blue, handy for finding it at a campsite.

For dressy pants the Leek is a great knife, and the composite blade is very good.

I think the Benchmade 530 is a tough little knife. It is small but strong, and even its axis lock is subdued: it won't get accidentally bumped loose. I like mine.

Depending on what you mean by heavy ... :p

I just grabbed a damascus Shallot for my dress knife needs... All that Kershaw goodness we know and love, plus a damascus blade to dress it up??? Yes, please... Although the blade is a touch longer than you wanted, 3.5" It carries very slim, and I feel is more sheeple friendly than numerous others in my collection.

the sheeple are what's killing me. i pulled it out a few times to do random tasks and people's eyeballs almost exploded a few times :jerk it:

ETA: It=ZT0301

lol, yeah, the 0300 is pretty hardcore. If you're looking for a good EDC that won't freak people out as much...that little sequel is probably not a bad place to start.
