I'm looking to upgrade my EDC rotation. I've narrowed it down to these three at the moment.

Benchmade 810 m4 or 390 version (love the blade shape and steel)
ZT 0909 (I still don't have a ZT)
Hogue EX01 4in gmascus

I will be replacing my beloved CS American Lawman aus8. Looking for something a little larger with g10 and better steel. This will be a knife that I will take with me to my buddies farms, gun range, a deer lease or something of that nature. I normally do not care for flippers and ball bearings but I think they would be acceptable for this application. I will not be dressing game with this knife. I have very large hands. I have no way to handle these knives before purchase.
Was wondering which of these you consider the best slicer of the bunch.

If you have other suggestions I would be glad to hear them. I've already decided against the Benchmade Crooked River

Benchmade 940. Gloves don't exist in a size big enough for my uncles hand or atleast not that we found. 2xl being too small, and he carries a 940 and he likes it

940 is a great knife but not a great slicer at all in my experiences with it. I'd go with the 909 or Crooked River. You might take a look at the Spyderco Manix FFG as well. Tremendous slicer.

I have 2 940's and a Manix LW. I love my 940's and the Manix is a great slicer but I'm looking for something a little beefier. I was wondering which of the three I mentioned would be considered the best slicer. Thanks for the replies so far.

Oh, and I also have a Gayle Bradley.....now that's a slicer:D

I would recommend this one....it is a great steel that will fit your hand just fine. ZDP cuts/slices great and holds an edge.
Spyderco Endura 4 ZDP-189 Model # C10PGRE

Good suggestion but I want g10 scales.

Not to change directions, but isn't it about time we see another G10 Endura?

Love the Contego, but it's not much of a slicer.
My best slicer is a BM 761. Take a look at it. Smoothest action I've felt. Flies open and very thin behind the edge!! Slices like a demon!!

Or how about a Spydie Military?? Will fit your hand very well and it can flat out slice!!
This one is Cruwear with Putman scales.

Good luck and let us know what you decide on!

ZT 562CF, with their slicer grind. One of my best "do anything", and still look pretty doing it, knives.

The knife doesn't have to be a great slicer but wondering if the Contego slices better than the 0909 or EX01. Which one of those 3 would be the best slicer.

ZT 0095BW is a good slicer
Stretch 2 has G-10 and ZDP-189

Edit: I believe the three you mention share similar thickness/blade stock. I would probably give tje slight edge to the 810 as it looks like the grind is a little higher...and its got M4!

I'd bet the Contego is the best slicer, though it's still not great. The 909 has wedging issues, but it's not bad either. The Hogue is the worst of the 3 by far when it comes to slicing.

I'd also recommend a Recon 1 in XHP if you liked the Lawman. It's bigger, slices very well and XHP is a big step up from the previous AUS8.

Also look at the Stedemon D-01, the Reate Hills and of course a good ol' Spyderco Military.

Of the three you mentioned, I'd definitely buy the Contego. If you do, be prepared to "soften" those handles a bit though. To call them aggressive would be an understatement.

I have or have had most of the knives, and the contego wins. I found it to have the best geometry of all of my knives. (CRKs, BM 940s, Spydercos, Thorbourns, Hinderers, Diskins, ZTs, and more). Believe it or not, but it was the thinest behind the edge. Others have reported that same finding on that model. I'm not saying it's my best knife, just my best folding slicer. It has its own faults in terms of the ergos.

The contego wins but I would say if you have never owned a ZT you might want to give them a try. The ZT0909 slices decent. The 0095BW is definitely a better slicer though. If looking for G10 specifically then I think the 909 would be a darn good one to give a try.
