I am looking for a long light bkade to slice meat, potatoes, tomatoes etc.. on the trail

in your opinion what is the best spydie blade shape and steel combo for the best slicer? I will probally send this off for a full regrind to make it a super slicer

I know there are better options out there for this but I like my spydercos and I have been looking for a good excuse to have a professional regrind done :)

A FFG large leaf is the best choice. I use a Manix 2 XL or the SuperLeaf. The SuperLeaf usually wins out for the all-rounder though. I just like the heavier blade and low carry clip.

When you're slicing, what you want is a blade with a lot of belly to it. The paramilitary 2 and the military both have a ton of that.

Jd smith, cento 3. Best slicing knives are kitchen knives, find one with the closest geometry, namely a thin blade stock would be the better ones for slicing.

Military, PM2, Manix 2 XL, Endura, even a Resilience which can be had super cheap with some searching, or the heaviest of the bunch, the Gayle Bradley though not FFG slices well.

So weight is a big deal deal for slicing huh?

I was trying to keep it lighter since its going to be part of my backpack gear.

I like the sound of the leaf shape blade for a slicer and Im pretty sure i have a manix 2 lightweight coming next week for my bday.. BD-1 is pretty corrosion Resistant isn't it? I haven't thought about it but I guess I could just use it even though I was planning it to be my EDC away from work

Since I have only 4 spyderco knives I'll recommend southard since it does have a good belly for it.

I slice for a living haha.

Does it have to be a folder? If not you should consider getting a mule there are different steel options and they slice awesome.

No I mentioned the weight of the GB because it's the heaviest and you might want something lighter to take backpacking. However we're only talking about a matter of an ounce or two which isn't that big of a deal to me.

Somewhere nutnfancy is reading this and yelling.

Best slicers in production are:
Stretch2
Caly3 and 3.5
Centofante3

All are highly regarded by their users.

Spyderco Stretch in either ZDP-189 or VG10..the thin blade and gobs of belly make it a amazing slicer. Its super lightweight too.

Long, light, slicer, potential super thin regrind?

If it doesn't have to be a folder, I'm thinking South Fork.

^^^ This...that new nilakka (sp?) has got to be super slicey too...

I recommend either the Military or the Manix2 Lightweight. Both will slice well out of the box; better after a regrind. Both are light for their size and would make good hiking knives. I carried a Military on a long section of trail a few years ago. Later I switched to a Pacific Salt. You could also go with the Pacific Salt if you have it reground to a FFG.

If "long, light, and a great slicer" are all important, then I'd suggest you take a look at the FFG Endura.
