I have a GB American Felling Axe, SFA, and Splitting Hatchet. The Splitting Hatchet gets used quite a bit for car camping or hauling in the snow on a sled. It's a great tool, though pretty heavy for backpacking. The SFA is wonderful and can split, but its better to use the method where one holds the head against the side of the log and whacks the whole thing down on another log. (This as opposed to simply striking down on a round when using the splitting hatchet) Personally, if I could only have one of the three mentioned it would be the SFA, followed by the splitting hatchet. The AFA is really apples to oranges to the umpteenth degree compared to the other two.
