Best small knife under $40?

What about the Benchmade Vex? $37.50 on New Graham. It's not necessarily small, at 3.33" (blade), but it has a pretty beefy look and feel to it. Not to mention the G-10 handles. Admittedly, the steel isn't as good as some, but it's working great for me, so far. Good luck deciding,

Josh

There's so many good folders in the $40 range. It may help if you could narrow it down for us with a desired blade length or other characteristic. I love my Subcom (carrying right now along with my Kershaw Baby Boa), but the blade is <2". Some suggestions made so far have blades ~3", others >3". I prefer to EDC blades in the 2"-2.75" range typically, except for weekends when I often have larger pockets. Overall size may play a bigger role in your decision than you think and you can narrow down your selections using size.

I have a spreadsheet I made of sub-$50 folders (many are <$40). I can send that to you if you'd like. It's sorted by either Brand or Blade Length (2 worksheets).

Instead of suggestion a specific model, I'd recommend you look into the following brands via their websites and stores (newgraham, knifecenter, etc.) to research price, lock type, size, aesthetics, etc.

- Benchmade (not many, but a few <$40)
- Spydero (a good amount <$40)
- Kershaw (several <$40)
- Camillus (the Cuda EDC is nice and slender)
- Buck (many <$40, Mantis is very slim and sleek)
- SOG (a few <$40)

The Subcom is readily available and a great knife. I also like the beefy look. The blade length works for most cutting tasks I need to do, but there are times I need a longer blade.

I have to put my vote on the Ka-Bar Dozier. I have one and it's a damn good knife. It's easy to sharpen razor sharp and it cuts damn well. It feels so good in my hand, the weight balance is excellent. A damn good working horse and it's cheap to boot. It's relatively small because it's thin and flat so you don't feel it when it's cliped to your pocket.

I am in search for another knife based on the Dozier's excellence. lol

I'll second (or third) the Camillus CUDA EDC. Got one clipped to my pocket even as I type this. Rides in the pocket nicely. Handle is just big enough for me to get all four fingers around it. (I have rather large hands.) Has a nice, beefy recurve drop-point blade. Nice, positive frame-lock. And while I prefer the 154CM blade steel mine has, the AUS 8 used in current production is okay, too.

Surely one of the Kershaw Ken Onions should suit... like the Scallion, or a second-hand Boa perhaps - that's a beefy blade all right.
