I've been brought into a large project involving O1 and am wondering what you guys have found to be the best source.

All the O1 I have worked with so far was from Travers, and it has proven very clean and consistent...both in precision ground bar-stock for stock removal and rod for forging.

I can very readily continue to rely on Travers...but just for kicks, any recommendations?

Thanks,
Nick

Nick, I have bought alot of 01 sealed in the plastic, percision ground from a local scrap yard. I have been paying $1lb. for the stuff. I just bought 25 pounds. Check them out, there are alot of treasures to be found, I also just picked up a hay-budden avil from them toooooo.

Nick,

I went through this a month or so ago. A customer wanted a set of stock removal O1 kitchen knives. I checked everywhere and toolanddie was the cheapest. The steel they sent was good and they were friendly and sent it quick.

holy heck! thanks for that link...i ordered a bunch of 01 from MSC last week...i'd have saved 30-40% going with tool and die...

next time...

Thanks Guys!!! :)

John, I was thinking of your thread and I couldn't find the darn thing. Of course I remembered ribbing you in it...;) But when I would do a search, the function disliked "O1"

I am very impressed by their prices on the Timken/Latrobe precision ground O1!

I am going to order some O1 drill rod from Travers as they have it on a GREAT sale this month (3/4" X 36" rod - $8.29).

Bruce, fellow forumite and new friend Blademan13 commisioned a hunter/utility from me and recently contacted me about coming into a project at knifeforums. The outdoor survival forum has a strong following to the Woodlore type knife and Jamie asked if anybody would be interested in a custom maker doing up some blade blanks that they could finish. There is an option of stock-removal, forged, and ss blanks.

The response was overwhelming. I have never seen a thread blow up so big (period) let alone, so fast. It is very exciting to be part of such a passionate and driven group project.

There's a thread I started in the custom forum about the ABS show. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures, but there's a pretty good review there from the other attendees. It was awesome!!! I hope you can be there next year too...I know I will be (God willing).

Thanks Fellas!!!!!!!
Nick

I was thinking that you might be trying to get together a bunch of O1 for making O1/L6 damascus. ;)
