I recently looked through my spyderco catalog and saw the wave models, looked on YouTube, I like the concept. What would you recommend for me to buy as a first spyderco preferably with wave, or I can just make it a ziptie wave if need be. Price preferably under $75 retail.

I have a D4W. It has been my EDC since June, so about 9 months.

What other waved models are there to choose from? The Endura, which is just a bigger Delica, the P'Kal, which is more SD-oriented, the Rescue/Assist (not sure which one)... And that's pretty much it.

For the most practical EDC, your choice is between the D4W and E4W.

I didn't have much luck with the zip-tie method. When it worked, I liked it, but it kept breaking or falling to the side so it wouldn't work. I'm currently looking into buying one with a real wave.

There are D3Ws and E3Ws in existence lol

They're kinda hard to find, though.

What I meant is whether or not last year or two years ago had more wave models to pick from. I plan on looking into a delica wave but I don't know when or if I'll get one. I'm curious to try out spyderco. I'm not sold on the hole yet but the wave is definately an interesting concept.

You will find a Endura third generation with wave ... but you never will find a Delica third generaton with wave - it does not exist :)

If you like SE (and maybe even if you don't), the E4W and D4W have the best serrations of any Spyder I've tried. They cut smoothly (more like a PE), and don't snag, while still having the advantages of SE.

I like SE but I could see issues with sheeple and I don't know how to shrpen them either. I'd like a plain edge. Street price seems to run about $60-$70 from what I've seen. Is that a reasonable price?

Sheeple will have issues with any Endura.

Anywhere in that range is a very good price.

How do they compare to the Salt serrations? I was thinking I'd get a plain D4W and a serrated Salt 1 in yellow because it would look less threatening and I've heard that the serrations on H1 become extremely hard. Should I go with that or the other way around?

For shear quickness to action, you can't beat the P'Kal. However, that particular knife is designed more towards SD & isn't as practical a EDC as a waved Delica/Endura.

However, if you flip the waved D/E around so that the wave is facing forward in your pocket, it'll be nearly as good as the P'Kal AND will be more practical for regular stuff.

The Salt serrations are way more deeper and pointier than those on the Gen4 Delica/Endura, so more likely to snag if not kept sharp.

IIRC Sal said the hardness of the serrations are comparable to ATS55 when fresh from the factory:)

Plain edge has a edge holding comparable to AUS6, but work hardens to about AUS8 or, as some say, even VG10.

The Delica IV Wave is pretty great! I've had mine for about a week now, and can't put it down.

Plus, the blue-grey handle color is a nice change, too.
