Best steel for use in a tomahawk?

I am not sure but the email he sent me said diff heat treated 8620 but I know its made from jack hammer bits as I was asking about one of his jack hawks.

I've heard that 9260 steel is used for jackhammer bits. I'd guess it was a typo. 9260 would make a good hawk. Of course jackhammer bits are made out of a lot of other steels also.
 
I'd ask for verification on what alloy Steve is using, as it sounds like a typo to me.

I'd love to know where Winkler is finding 5160 big enough to cut out his 'hawk blanks.
 
He uses a number of different steels in his hawks. The jack hawks are re-sulferized high carbon steel. And, I might add, amazing cutting tools.
