Best steels for Knives ?

Hi, Scott! There is nothing wrong with the word you used. We use terms, and names every day to know what each other are talking about. I've been blasted for using the term Hunting knife here, combat Knife, Fighting knife. Seems that you can say Art Knife without getting in too much trouble. Folder is OK! I've been told that knives don't hunt. Knives don't Fight. Then again if you just say knife they want to know what the knife is going to be used for. You can't win here. A real shame. Take a look at my profile. If you want real answers, not insults, send me a E-Mail. I will direct you to couple of real, and friendly, helpful knife forums. Well known makers, at the top of the game. Always willing, and happy to help. The comments here would already have put a few on probations on some of the other forums. Trolls are history over night. By the way folks. You are right Tac. has been over used. Mostly by factory types trying to make a buck on a trend. In the real world, Tactical is the word used for mostly LEO. Combat, Fighting, Military. Hunters, self explanatory. Folders, again self exp. I'll bet with each work, each and every one of you drew a mental picture. If I can help Scott,Drop me a line. Mike

Yep! Most of the Steel Companies and Metalurgest around the world can now Shut their doors. Turns out they've been wasting their time for decades. If NASA had only known, they could have saved a crap load of money. Exotics? We don't need no stink'in Exotics. Y'Heck, I bet a bunch of "Smiths" could have beat out that shuttle in no time! Mike

:D :D :D
But would you care to elaborate on the steel used in the dies to cut that metal to build it ?
The steel used to cut all of the threading, do the boring/milling ? The equipment used to pick up the pieces when the superglue and tile cause them to fall out of the sky ?
;)
Hint: It's decades old...likely so are quite a few of the machines and machinist running them..

Shure! I'll Bite, since I'm from Huntsville Ala and sold machine tols to many of the Aero Space companies there. Let's see. D-2. D-3 M-2 Vasco Wear. You Probably dont know what that one is for. Cobalt enriched carbide. Tunsten carbide. steel lite 6-k. Would you like for me to seen you a few tons of paper work, or is this lite smattering enough. I can go on for pages. The tiles are not. Wernot held on by super glue. Its a two part adhesive, consisting of a buttering agent, and the bonder, by Loc-tite. Sorry. Or at least it was 25 years ago when I was there. It may have changed many thime by now. In the real world, things progress. Catch up sir!:D I now live in Texas. Heck, I was using machinery and materials 30 years ago in Huntsville, that they haven't even heard of here yet. Water jet what? Lazer ? Like on star wars? EDM? Every day movement? CNC? What a cad. Haaaa! Mike
