Best Sub $100 Stockman For EDC

I've had my ancient Old Timer 8OT in my pocket for the past 6 months. I love it. Much less that 100 bucks but it cuts like much more.

I posted a similar thread not too long ago (time flies when your having fun) and the best response I got was a Case 63032.
A lovely Stockman that ticks all the boxes for me as Stockmans go. It's not too big at 3 5/8" and has a nice pen blade in lieu of a spey. That Case CV is good stuff.
A bit off topic. What I find that I actually prefer to carry on a daily bases has changed through trial and error. Since I find myself far removed from the farms I once knew as a youngling my lifestyle has lead me to appreciate smaller, thinner and lighter traditional patterns. If I had a hunsky to drop on a well made EDC I would take a hard look at GEC's #33 Conductor and take Mrs Sappyg out for an icecream.

The Case 63032 CV does not have a spey blade, but rather a pen like Sappy and Carl have already mentioned. A big + for a lot of users.

If you shop around you can find one in Chestnut and Amber for less than $100.00 for the pair.

Another vote for the 340T, I got this one on the bay for $20 with no blade wear at all just a few months back. :)

As mentioned, you cant miss with a Case or the American made Schrade knives. If you just want a user don't forget about Rough Rider. Also look at the GEC Moose patterns.

I second the Queen stockman suggestion. IMHO the 4 1/4” Cattle King is just perfect. Look up also the the 3 7/8” and 4 1/4” Moore Maker stockmans: those were/are also made by Queen.

There's something about old timers and uncle henry's that just make me feel good. Rough Rider makes a mean knife, though, I'll agree with that 100%.

I love my Rough Riders, they can definitely hold their own as a user...the sowbelly long rifle (which is 4 5/8" closed) is quite an attractive and functional knife, but I have a connection with the old timers and really for how much knife you get for 20 - 40 bucks its crazy.

My long rifle.

Welcome aboard eNon! I recommend either the Case 47 series or the TB39 series Sowbelley. You can still get the stag 47 with CV or pre-order the newly released TB39 in stag and CV for a tad over $100.....

Thanks for all the help guys. I appreciate all the suggestions. I'm thinking I may pick up a Case Stockman in Chestnut Bone CV. The blade rubbing & scratching issues that I've read about are a little worrying, but this is a for-use knife for me, not for-show. First though I am trying to contact a couple online stores selling the original 2 blade Schatt & Morgan Horticulturist Knife that I mentioned, which I believe is made by Queen, to see if they will look at their stock and show me their most brown/dark red knife of the lot, as I've seen photos of these going from mostly brown to nearly all candy cane red (which I don't want). If they'll do that for me and I see one that I like, I'll probably get that and wait on the Case Stockman. I just don't really see my need for the a 3rd blade. It's just a shame that you don't really see a sheepsfoot blade on anything other than stockmans or custom knives. It seems like a lot of people like them from reading posts here.

You have a lot of options.......many already listed.

I don't have any over 100. My go-to's are Buck 301/303, Case 75/032, GEC 66.

The 032 and 66 get the most pocket time. All great knives though.

Good luck.

Jim

My EDC Stockman is the Buck 301. Can't be beat for the price. For $100 you could get a 301 Stockman AND a Buck 389 Canoe (makes a great co-carry EDC) and still have money left over to take the bester half out for pizza and an ice cream. :)

Four year old thread, guys, I don't think the original poster is still looking for advice....
