Best sub $200 hunting knife

Am I the only person who read this as "Best $200 sub-hunting knife"?

:D

I was really confused for a couple of seconds there.

Another vote for Bark River here. They have knives to fit any taste in hunting and you can get a spectacular knife for under $100.

If you're going to hunt subs, I'd be looking for something that had good corrosion resistance, perhaps something in a Spyderco...

David Winston makes very nice hunting knives in that price range. I've got one of his Model 22s, and I love it.

Bob Dozier's D2 heat treat is second to none. I own three of his knives, with a fourth on the way. They cut and cut.

Two suggestions- for just about $200 you can get a custom made Burt Foster Blue Collar Hunter with a beautiful handmade sheath. It is a screaming deal, almost too good to be true. Do a search in the "custom" forum for lots of pictures of these. I have one in hand, and another on order. It is in my opinion a fantastic all-around hunting knife and there is just something special about getting a knife that someone made by hand. E-mail Burt Foster to get in line for one.

For less than $100, an really sweet field dressing and general hunting knife is the D.H. Russell Candian Belt Knife http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_purpose/hunting/d_h_russell_original_design_canadian_belt_knife.html
It's a great design.

Bob Dozier or Charlie May

Yes. Charles May should be another good choice. Don't own any of his knives, but they always seem to grab my attention when I see one posted. That's how I got started buying Doziers.

Joe the Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter Folder is a hard knife to beat for the money. The lock up on this knife seats deeper than the Manix does also and the spring and lockbar are bigger on it believe it or not. It has to be one of the stoutest lockbacks being made right now. Some vendors may still have older AUS8A blades in stock but the new ones are VG1 steel and have some additional traction grooves in key points for the index and thumb during use.

The blade and lockbar on this knife are nearly 4mm thick but it slices very well for such a big knife.
