Im looking for a good solid fixed and was going to get the griptilian before seeing how people on here really dislike the handle. What is there for a small fixed blade around 75 bucks with a serrated combo edge that would give me a very good quality knife and value? I dont want to exceed 8.75"

Check out the Fallkniven F1. Very good survival knife. Great design.
Might be a tad more expensive than 75$...

I assume you mean 8.75" oa. In that case I agree with mike, the rat3 or tak make nice knives, also If in not mistaken, you can find fallkniven for pretty cheap, something like the F1 would make a good knife.

As gor the griptallion, I dont own one, but I cant see the handle being a problem.

i recently scored an fallkniven f1.. it is an awesome knife....  another vote for the f1...

i can't believe it took me so long to get one....:o i have been truly impressed with it..

i have a custom kydex sheath on it's way(from normark) as we speak....:D

yeah I would like to get on in the future. But as X-mas just went by, The ol' piggy bank is a little low, also If I buy from a canadian dealer, its going to be over $130, which is a little more than I would like to pay for a knife, when I already convinced myself I have enough ;)

haha, dam, your rite, But I've been thinking of using a bigger knife, and then a smaller folding knife for hiking. So I dont know, but I may try and replace my BK7 with a RAT7 one of these days.

mtnfolk mike do you mean it took you long to decide on it or it took long to get from a dealer? because i'm going on 2 months now waiting for mine! maybe everyone gets and gives knifes for x-mas and the stores run out!

But none of these have serrated edges guys! I need a serrated edge

I'm assuming that you are referring to a partial serration? I personally don't feel that there is any need for serrations on a survival knife. Don't get me wrong, I have serrated knives but the only time I pack them is when i'm climbing and they are strictly for emergency rope and webbing work. The serrations for me are more of a hinderance in a survival or general utility knife.

One thing you could do with any of the aformentioned knives is leave part of the blades edge unpolished and use a coarser stone. The micro serrations on that portion of the blade will give you a similar effect to a serrated edge. Just my .0002 cents

Fonley, I'm glad you are here, because whenever you talk about your blades and needing to upgrade, or change your current line-up,
I see myself in the mirror. :D Enough is NEVER enough!

I gotta tell you, I am liking the Rat-7 more each time I use it.
My basic knife/tool kit is the Rat-7, Wenger mountaineer (folder with saw) and the gerber tool. they fit right in the Rat-7 sheath's accessory pouch.
(How convenient, justifies more purchases to fill the pouch!) ;)

But, also, the BK7 is good knife, and you can certainly do the same type of set-up with it.

OK, OK, here's a pic: (oh crud, I better cut the V notch or Doc will be kickin mah butt). :thumbdn:

Oh, apologies to snodog, this is your thread. If you are talking about OA length, then yes, MtnMike is right on with the Rat3,
AND yes indeed, it can be had with serrations.
I believe that OA is right about 8" total, if I remember correctly.

ohh sweet, thanks skunk, I was waiting for you to show a pic :D

Yeah, I really like the look of the RAT7, And I dont know about the cutting ability of the RAT7 compared to the BK7. But I think It would be the same If not better. The edge wasn't ground the best on the BK7 when I got it, so I had to reprofile it a little bit. The reason I started carrying this and A vic Fireman and a leatherman wave is because, I now think that a medium knife , multitool and folding knife may be the better choice for me, as like you, I like taking the smallest amount. So the set up with an axe, small knife and a multitool was geting to combersome for me while out in the woods.

Also, I gotta admit, even with all the talk of victorinox. That mountaineer has a really good look to it.

ohhh, I remeber when you guys were talking about this, is that one you did with mustard?
