Best Survival Knives?

Great answers guys. You all have good suggestions.

For me, it depends on many variables. What type of wilderness would you most likely have to survive in? What I'd carry in The jungle is not what I'd carry in the Yukon. Generally speaking I guess the two most important factors to consider are budget and quality. Get the very best you can afford.

The RTAK will undoubtably be a great choice, but you will find out if you get one, that they are HUGE. To me, a huge blade would not be very practical to carry. However the price of the new Ontario RTAKs makes them irresistable.

Consider the Becker BKT7 or BKT9. You can carry survival items in the handles, and that's a great plus. For what it's worth, I had a Livesay RTAK, and sold it. I have both Beckers, and will keep them.

As far as folders go, you will not do better than a quality SAK such as the Trailmaster model. However if price doesn't matter, and you want a folder other than a SAK or a multi tool, you can't go wrong with a Al Mar SERE 2000. You'll love it.

if I can have only 2 knives!

martindale golok 13" $40.

leatherman supertool $50.
or
sak trailmaster $35.

your skill level is more important than your tools

you have a point there, whenever you watch ray miers or whoever go into the rainforests and stay with the native indians who live off of hte forest and depend literally all their lives on their knives they all use a cheap machete and sharpen it on a roch they found somewhere.... i suppose tie difference is that they never venture too far from their village and so if it breaks they borrow their brothers until they get back and pull another one out from under their bed, in an extreme surivival situation 'us westerners' would find ourselves in we wouldnt have the luxury of being so close to home with spares available and other people to borrow things off of. swings and roundabouts.. I can definately vouch for the fallkniven A! however.... not too expensive and incredible quality and strength
