Best swiss army knife

All I've gotta say is that it's a good thing they make so many different models, since everyone seems to like different ones.

Why everyone can't be sensible and just carry the Farmer is beyond me.:D

I carry the swiss cyber tool. To my mind its like a mini tool box with pretty much everything one needs around the house.

In my humble opinion the huntsman and fieldmaster are the perfect saks. Huntsman has the corkscrew fieldmaster has the phillips screwdriver. Take your pick.

 You stated my opinion exactly.
Coming in second place after this first place tie, for me, would be the climber (huntsman minus the saw).

Another vote for the Vic Soldier. Bought mine new in 1983, been carrying it ever since. Done a lot with it. Good, tough knife.

The Glocksmith

And another vote for the Huntsman/Fieldmaster. A good balance between size and tool selection IMO. I would say that if you can get to a store and pick some up that'll help you decide on how many layers (how think it'll be) you'll be happy with.

So two layers: Spartan, Tinker, Compact etc.
three layers: Climber, Camper, Deluxe Tinker etc.
four layers: Huntsman, Fieldmaster, Explorer etc.

Or you can go the whole hog an get the Swiss Champ, it's the one every little boy wanted with all the tools.:) IMO only really practical to be carried in a belt pouch though.

Explorer Plus in pocket.

Swiss Champ for those times I don't mind carrying on the belt.

I love the Farmer, but I find myself carrying a StayGlow Climber most often. I love the StayGlow scales!

The "best" SAK is the one that has all the tools you need on it, and none of the ones you don't. Beyond that, there is no one "best" SAK (or any other knife for that matter). :p

Well said.
My personal fav is the tinker:cool: but I have several different ones, for different activities. Mdauben nailed it, what tools do you need and which ones can you live without. Great thing about SAK, with such a great selection, your bound to find the one thats just right for you. :)

The Vic "Cadet" or the "Recruit" are super nice and handy. If you want something with a few more options, then the "Climber" or the "Champion Plus" are another way to go. Which ever you get, if you didn't get all that you wanted then they (Vic or Wenger) make one that has what you want at a decent price....:D:thumbup:

;)

It's funny, I compiled a list of all the features I have used multiple times on the SAK's I own and then a couple I really want that I have not used much (yet) and I'll be darned if I didn't end up with exactly a "Huntsman Plus". So guess whats next on my list? ;) It only took a dozen and a half other SAK's to figure that out...:D:thumbup:

I think a Compact is a good first SAK; two layers thin, with classic SAK tools. But, so is the old Victorinox soldier model. So hard to choose just one.

I love my Farmers. I currently have a silver, two red,a blue one and a customized greenish/gray hard anodized one by Scibeer. Almost forgot about my newest one! An orange swissbianco with attached firesteel. Couple any one of these with a 58mm SAK,like the Classic or Rambler, or a Leatherman Squirt S4 and you get scissors, small blade, tweezers, nailfile(toothpick with the SAKs). All around great for EDC carry. I sometimes like to carry my Red SwissChamp. I also have a Hunter Green scaled Swiss Champ, a Hardwood one,and a Stayglow scaled one(minus the pen and pin). And the Mrs was kind enough to feed my SAK addiction with the gift of a Stayglow scaled Handyman. I have been carrying this as EDC for a while now. I'd hate to have to choose between them, but if I had no other choice I'd pick the original red Swiss Champ because it covers most bases. Followed very closely by a Farmer,in my case the Scibeer one.

I carry my electrician more than the others (well, not more than the explorer, but that is probably outside of the OP's specs... it's rather fat) and love it. It is almost the same as the soldier, but instead of a can opener it has a little sheeps foot blade / wire stripper. Handy as heck.

Electrician Plus--This plus a GOOD saw blade.----KV

my fav is the 84mm tinker with the soldier next in line - along with the 74mm executive or an alox cadet!
Peace
