Best tactical Benchmade?????

Commrad Chang: When I press the liner lock while using my finger to push down on the top of the blade then the tang of the blade catches the end of my thumb and I have to shift my thumb out of the way before I can close them. This is the only Benchmade that does that to me,however, I do have small hands.

Damn Straight Chad! I was wondering when someone would chime in with the Nimravus. The 140 (full size) is, to me, about the best PRODUCTION defense blade out there. Hell, I even carry it in the yard to defend myself against wayward sprigs on my myrtles and rose bushes. And the 145 (cub) is everything the 140 is in a smaller package. Granted you probably can't carry a fixed blade to work, but I find a way to bring mine along whenever I can. For the worst situation, it's what I would want sticking out of my fist.

What are you guys nagging about?
In any way you interpret "tactical", I think it means stronger and easier to fight with.
But that doesn't matter. BM has got only one fixed blade, the big Nimravus. In M2, I would like to see any folder made by benchmade outchop it.
No, seriously. If you can choose between a folder or a fixed blade in a fight, which would you pick?

I vote the big Nimravus in M2.

Bart Student: You're right man, the "big Nimravus" is the ultimate. I own no other BM except that and its a M2 model too. Supreme Urban Tactical (SUT) I called it.

Let's sidetrack a bit, the only knife that can come close to that will be the Timberline Aviator, good blade(ATS34), lousy sheath.

I have seen and held the BM Automatic series once a year ago, good feel, good spring. Unless you can get hold of one of those, nothing can beat the pleasureness of the Nimravus

How about balisongs?
For the records someone should say...

In opening speed and balance when opened will not beat modern tactical folders, but balis have simple, sturdy locking system, moreover best tactical knife if compared to other knives in closed position. This will make it easier for you to deploy than other scary-in-closed-position-knives, IMHO.

Tennessee, NOW I seldom cut myself after hudreds of cut or scratch for years. After seeing Clay's site and be a Balisong forumite, I'm only an average of bali-knuts!

Stryker is one of the few tanto's I like, and mine locks up well. Good index finger cutout and grip.

Pinnacle integral lock may be the most robust of the bunch and I like the blade grind w/ recurve.

710 Axis is also sturdy, but not the smoothest since the axis lock makes continuous contact with the tang. Mine is a bit rough, might just be that my tang didn't get polished as well as others. And don't use parrafin based lube (like White Lightning, or Pedro's Ice Wax)... the wax collects pocket dirt/debris and goes gritty.

I still like the AFCK very well. It is an excellent general utility knife in addition to being tactical with the excellent index finger cutout for grip security, and the pointy pommel if you are into that sort of capability. The newer ones appear to have adopted the radiused tang grind invented by one of the Spyderco guys so the knife should probably never wear so much that the liner passes too far past the tang ... same as on newer Military and Starmate. I like the AFCK better than the Military overall.

I'd buy another AFCK if they put one out in Stellite or in 420V around Rc58, or the new CPM3V-stainless.

BM tactical folder are way too small. It is sad that they replace the big cqc7 with a smaller stryker.

I stopped buying BM. Look into the microtech socom elite, large sifu, pentagon elite 2.

Hi:

Great responses. I'm lucky enough to own a CQC7 4" with a left-pocket clip (Good looker w/black blade). Why is this better than the Stryker - it's size or grind???

Some say there are better alternatives to Benchmade. Such as....

Thanks!

Best BM tactical? Easy. The BM705 Mini-Axis

. Oh, wait. You said tactical, not tactful. Sorry.

Professor.

Ok,
I think everyone knows how well the military evaluates their weapons & tools before adopting them for issue. The current allowed issue knives by Benchmade are as follows:

Full size Nimravus
AFO auto
Stryker auto
Stryker 910SBT
Pardue 3550 auto
All the Ascent Models

Someone help me out if I forgot any, as my Benchmade military/LEO catalog is at work.
All these knives carry a NSN number or a GSA number for issue to the armed services. The friends I have in the military are given a choice on these depending on what they do, but all are issued at least a folder, and most are Benchmade. Ernest Emerson currently has 2 different ones that are for issue(new designs I believe, for NASA & the Coast Guard).
