best tactical folder

Just a contrarian's viewpoint-a 3-3.5" bladed fixed blade with a 6-7" OAL might work for you. RJ Martin's Handiman and Kozuka are in your budget, though they may be hard to find. Don Polzien makes great kozukas in BG42, Allen Blade makes some nice short drop points. arizonacustomknives.com and robertsoncustomcutlery.com may have some of the above available.

I'm not thinking about a fixed blade now... but arizona got me looking... the Crawford Carnivore... what is the rolling lock?

And nifrand...what about a damascus tanto plain edge CUDA?

The Sebenza is the best but not very "tactical." My preference is the AFCK -- tactical blade shape and great finger protection.

Take a look at : Spyderco police (good knife and PC name), Spyderco shabaria, Coldsteel voyager.

The REKAT Rolling Lock is a heacy duty spring actuated lock. It has been tested to have a high strength threshold for failure.

All real good choices. I'd just like to add the full or mini KFF.

Reading all your criteria, a MT SOCOM MA Tanto is right up your alley.
If you can a SOCOM DA is even better.
If legality worries you there is the Mini SOCOM.

CPR couldn't have said it better. I'm in the same boat as him, traded in all for the best- the Sebenza. Small Wood inlay of course and a large coming soon hopefully. These will be the only two folders I'll ever need. I'm sure of it. Later, Jeff

look into a spydeco Tim Wegner. Full size, smooth and light weight, fine lines and will hold a serious edge.

ayryq,
I would highly recommend the small plain Sebenza for your purchase. It's always going to be legal no matter where you go, it has a strong lock, and it's a knife that you can treasure for a lifetime. It can be dis-asembled for cleaning and lube, and you can send it back to CRK for reconditioning for $20.
It's not the most ideal knife for tactical carry, but it beats nothing. Besides what are the chances you'll ever need it for that anyway?
As a student you might be better off staying within the confines of your local laws.

For that price you could start a great collection!!!

$350...

1. Benchmade Axis Lock
great knife, secure lock-up,
awesome company.

2. Spyderco Starmate
hard to find, well worth wait

3. Any REKAT!!!
Locking mech. is strong as hell;
multiple blade style configuration available;

If there is anything specific out there u r interested in, check here first...case in point...MT's seem nice, but sometimes are known for spine-slap lock failure!

ayryq,

Soloman and Leo Daher,

Ezekiel 25:17 reads, "And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them."

I don't think that other quote is from the Bible!

Ryan,

That quote is actually from the movie "Pulp Fiction"...

I knew it wasn't from the Bible, since I'd already looked up and didn't find it.

for a folder, those new CRKT knives are nice... i forget what they're called... the kershaw action liner is nice. easy deployment... the edge holds up nicely, but the handle is easily damaged (hehe... i know)... i nice general carry knife would be one of the SWAT knives... those have nice sturdy locks and the blades hold up pretty well

I'd have to vote against the SWAT knives. I was suckered into purchasing one of those POS before I found bladeforums. I cannot compare to my Spydercos or Benchmades. The liner stops on the left side of the blade and the action is pretty slow. I won't even get into the printing of Made in the U.S.A. on the box of a knife that was made in Taiwan.

I'm not sure if the budget is $350 or $250. If it's $350, you've got many, many choices. To start a collection, I'd choose the Sebenza. For pure tactical, I'd look hard at the Crawfords: Shark, Carnivore, Wortac (that is a Crawford, isn't it?). Also the Emerson Commander & CQC7. I'd also consider the option of large Wegner, REKAT Carnivore, and CQC7, all three of which you can get within your price range. If you're concerned with defensive use, whatever you buy, throw in an Emerson La Griffe. Not much $$$ for peace of mind, and you don't even know it's there (and neither does anyone else). But again, Sebenza would be my top pick. Oh yeah, don't forget about the Speedtech Synergy. Sweet knife, and that tanto blade model is cool. Also, like was posted before, if you can get away with an auto the Microtech DA-Socom is as tactical as it gets, although the clip points are getting hard to find.

If you prefer tanto blade BM Stryker is a good bet. I would rate it above other tantos due to symmetrical grind. I steel don't understand the idea behind chisel grind in folders. As a tactical/utility blade I would suggest BM AFCK, in M2 maybe, or Spyderco Military.
