Actually, the reverse 'S' blade from Spyderco is designed to be used with little or no training. It's use is more or less simplified by eliminating the ability to thrust to maximize it's slash potential(which is better for the lock anyway).
In my training I've found the plain straight blade/knife like the Endura and Military which can be used in a variety of grips(forward/ reverse, edge in/out) and can slash and thrust to be the more complicated due to the wider variety of techniques available. The 'curved' blade has a degree of target controllability, but in a violent struggle against a larger stronger highly aggressive individual, I'd most likely use the blade's forte, slashing. Controllability is nice, but is probably hard to do with a device designed to pass through soft targets. IMHO
Do you train in a martial blade system? Most of them have a fairly universal angular attack system and once you strip out the thrusting angles/attacks, everything left is a fair 'curved' blade technique(generally).
