What i have in the box is most likely the best thing since sliced bread. can any one guess what it is. I will give you a few hints. It plugs in, and i will use it to do do things to my knife blades to dress them up. it also can be used in fitting guards and other requirements that require removing metal. I probably gave it away but lets see if you can get it. i will post picture of what it is in a little bit. but until then see if you can guess.

Have you guessed what it is yet;). It's an electro file'er-O-matic. Well that's what I call it. It will hold any swiss files and with the press of the foot peddle the file starts filing :). The speed as well as the stroke length is completely adjustable. also in 2 pictures I'm holding it and my pointer finger is resting on a squareish finger rest. By moving my finger up or down I can rotate the file. This allows for really nicely blended cuts like File work on knife spines ;)

Jarod you find some of the most obscure, yet cool stuff. I've seen various versions of engravers and carving tools for flexible shaft rotary machines, but nothing quite like that. I wonder what they're really called and where they come from (in addition to your secret source, that is!)?

I´ve got one of those. Found it in the trashbin at work, together with 30-40 files, diamond files and small honing stones, but it had no motor so it has been collecting dust in the "could come to handy som day" pile..
I have an old dentist drill with a flexible shaft and foot pedal.. Only need to make an adapter to make it fit..
Mine is marked "The Diprofil Machine"
Made by Normek AB in Sweden

How do I change the stroke length?

Under the vented cap there is an adjustment. If you ever want to get rid of yours let me know and I will buy it off your hands. It would be very handy to have back up parts.

The Foredom motor has a 3:1 gear reduction head on the angled side. If you ever want to sell IT, let me know!

Diprofil ........ It isn't so much an "electro file'er-O-matic" as it is a tool used in the Tool & Die Industry for polishing injection mold cavity. You'll get much more use out of it if you purchase stones & stone holders.

It will save you a LOT of elbow grease when polishing your knives.

Here's a hot tip ....... or should I say a cool tip  Add a cooling hose to the little tit coming off the handle of your unit, then run it to an air source to keep the Diprofil at a handle-able temperature. You will be surprised how warm (HOT) the tool can get when polishing

I've been using one for about 30 years now. If mine ever took a crap I would replace it immediately ............ with one of the new ultra sonic polishers ;) Now those bad boys RULE

One of the spectacularly stupid things a smith I know well but who shall remain nameless has done is stick a needle file in a 20,000 RPM die grinder.... Worked great... for a few seconds before it flew across the shop and hit the wall (fortunately not himself) with the force of a small caliber projectile WHIZZZZZZ... BANG!!!

Oh no. You've done it now. You've shown me a new cool tool. Now I'll have to either seek one out to buy, or build one. Arrrggghhhh.....

Ah yes, Marathon man ............... a true classic

...... for some reason my Dentist never appreciates that line ;)
