Best under 3in tactical folders?

Is this tactical enough for you?

What could you possible hope to accomplish tactically with a sub 3 inch folder??

A nation was forever changed with 1" box cutters. And I have direct knowledge of someone killed with a 2" cheapy gas station folder. Skill, luck and motivation matter most. JMO.

Feeling a bit ignorant of my history here -- but what does the "1" box cutters" part refer to?

I wouldn't even consider a big folder "tactical". The only thing I would consider tactical, is a full sized, fixed, full tang, fighting knife. What do you need a tactical knife for? If its self defense, you are lucky enough, if you have the time to draw your fixed blade, don't fool yourself. If its box cutting, everything you like will do that. Browse through Cutlerylovers, Nutnfancys, Wealljuggleknives, etc Videos, you will see a lot more knives and honest reviews, than we can write down now.

Probably referring to 9/11. I think the people who took over the planes and made them crash used box cutters in their efforts.

Probably would depend upon your "tactics". ;)

Oh I am well aware but neither of those cases were self defense cases.

I'm one of those people that can't ever see myself using a knife in a self defense role (Sigs are better at that) but I can't imagine wanting to use a sub 3 inch folder for any type of tactical/defensive purpose.

The OP has already admitted he just wants tactical looking so my original point was rendered moot.

I like the Benchmade 710, 580 Barrage, 520 Presidio and 913 Stryker. All of these come in smaller versions but I don't recall the exact model numbers. There is also the 470 Emissary which only comes in the small size.

My vote(s) go for the Spyderco Dragonfly 2-1/2" blade, or the Benchmade 2-3/4"(?) Mini-Griptillian.

I agree on the Dragonfly, a small folder that acts like a bigger one, grip and comfort are both excellent, I put jimmping thumbramp on the back of the balde for better control.

My thoughts exactly, might as well carry a Traditional Slipjoint, less likely to raise eyebrows.

I can't help it, I like the way it looks, it looks scary, kinda reminds me of the Delta Z Osprey.

I have an old Homicide Detective's Handbook from the early 50s, it has a pic/xray of a guy in prison who commited suicide  with a safety pin.

As for my recomendation, get a BM Mini Griptilian.

DPX gear HEST 2.0.. wait did you say under 100 bucks ? It is well worth the extra 75. Try a tops california cobra, wicked little bastid!oh wait did you say folder ......Fail.. both great knives IMO.How about CRKT M1 out of production but AWESOME!! Ontario utillatac 2 wait that is 3.5" I give up!!!!:D

Cold Steel Mini AK-47, just under three inches.
I was thinking about getting one myself but you could pick up the Voyager Medium (ever so slightly longer) for twenty dollars less.
But for tactical uses, I think the Mini AK is pretty sweet. It has an awesome pommel and you can wave it out of your pocket.

I just placed an order on a Voyager, if it impresses me then I might muscle up for their AK47s, Recons, and Lawmans.

Just how tactical are you looking to get? Gut hook? Reverse tanto? Blood groove? Striker pommel? Saw capability? Skull logo?

Tactical Gut Hook! My benchmade seatbelt cutter just got way more scary. Imagine the damage you could do when fighting for your life. Each swipe and they are losing innards, yikes. Don't mess with an EMT!
