I am wanting opinions on which EKI model would be best for day to day utility use. Opinions are appreciated and you guys will probably have a big part in my next purchase. Im getting 3 or 4 of them but the majority opinion here will probably decide my EDC. Get the opinions going guys.

I carried a mini-7 for a long time, its a great knife for EDC being about the right size, price and being tough enough to handle most things you can put it through.

The only thing i didnt like much was the tanto point (i know i could have got a 7A but....) and its a little thicker in comparison to some other knives of the same ilk like a Delica or Scalion.

The only EKI i have carried more than a mini-7 is the 12 i use now. It is much bigger of course but is actually thinner and does carry very well. I know blade size can be an issue for some folks but i am lucky enough to be in a country where the police couldnt care less as long as your not actually killing someone or walking around with a sword etc. (my home country is not so leniant:grumpy:)

If blade size or just convenience of carry is an issue the mini-7 is a good choice but i would also look at the 14.
The 14 is a big knife with a little blade but again does carry pretty well and keeps things legal if thats a problem for you.

If you dont have any legal requirements then an HD-7 or CQC-12 is probably the way to go.

enough ramblings for now :D:thumbup:

the a100 makes a fine utility.

the only concern would be the lack of a choil, and risk of your hand sliding up on the blade.

though my gf used mine to cut up about 10 huge cardboard boxes and never cut herself.

imho the '12 is the best utility knife in the EKI line due to the blade grind & shape, heck its the best EKI period imho,

#2 for utility imho would be the '13, again due to blade shape and grind.

The CQC8 is the best all-round Emerson in my experience.

Second to that I would put the CQC13, although some might not like the sharp point.

The CQC11 is an awesome knife but perhaps a little big for some.

The 8 is perfect in every way. I just wish I could locate a non-Wave version.

I ordered the 8 should be here by the end of the week and I ordered a 13 and 14 also. I am considering the 16 too.

I am very excited about the 8, but the 13 gets here first. Thats ok it will give me time to get a feel for each one.

They are both fantastic knives. Not too big and not too small. My 8 is also the sharpest knife in my collection. Its so sharp you can cut yourself just looking at it :D

By comparison I had a Commander (my first Emerson) that I just couldn't get really sharp, no matter what I did.

I really prefer the V-grind models for that reason.

The 16 looks really great too....

Mini Commander and the 11 if you want to go bigger. I like my HD7 due to the framelock and it's alot of knife in compact package. But the mini Commander imho carries the best and I dig recurves.
