Hey y'all, newcomer here.

Im in the market for the best value between $300-$400 for a folder/flipper. Action and f/f is important to me. Ive been looking into Reate New Torrents as theyre just so pretty and reviews seem stellar.

What are your thoughts?

If you like the style:

Quickly bumped to the top of my favorite knives and in your range. Can't go wrong with a (New) Torrent either though. Or one of the K-Series Knives. Reate does great work overall.

Your price range fall in a dead zone in my opinion. Between $200 and $300, a lot of zt’s and other brands. Just over $400, Hinderer. I would save some of your money and just go with a $200 plus zero tolerance flipper.

I do like that. Very unique.

I agree. If i can sell my Brous VR71 Ill likely bump my price range up a notch, eithout getting too crazy. I read varying things on Hinderer actions so I have to dig deeper before taking that leap.

I am so disappointed.

Reate Wave. $375.

Also: Mini Horizon-D, New Torrent, K-1...

Reate is huge in that price range.

Honestly, your price range steps right into what I would call "the point of diminishing returns"; $200-300 seems to be where you really get the most bang for your buck. That said, the 300-400 range does have some cool stuff in it if you're looking to spend that much:

If you go a little above your price range, you get into the Olamic Cutlery knives - the Busker and Wayfarer are the most expensive knives I have seen people regularly talk about using aside from Hinderer / Strider / Chris Reeve knives.

i think i'm underestimating Reate action/fit and finish. they're REALLY popular, and i just shrug at every picture and spec list. is it a specific person, or for a specific use that i should consider a 400 dollar 6 oz rwl34 folder for? i've got no bias against country of origin, guess i'm just missing something.

If you can find one I think another knife by the same name is a good value in that price range the Millit Torrent. Saw one for $350 a little bit back I almost pulled the trigger on it but didn’t kinda regret it.

People who like quality flippers who find their design appealing? It's like CRK Knives, you know what you get when you buy one. At least that's how it is for me. And nobody scoffs at 400+ for a (Large) Sebenza.

How about a second-hand LNIB Hinderer XM-18, which can be had for slightly over $300?

Alot of Hinderers don’t have great flipping action though. For example I got a 2nd Gen eklipse with a positively mushy flipping action.

Just got this a few weeks ago, great flipping action and really good attention to details. In your price range there are some good options which have been posted above. If you go over $400 your choices really open up.

Reate, CKF, Steelcraft series (Reate). Those would be my choices in that price range. Would have lots more a little bit north or south.

Between 2-300 dollars I don't see how you beat ZT if a flipper is your goal. 3-400 is that area where you keep asking yourself should I just save a bit more and get a (fill the blank).

Out of the 5 I’ve handled and had 1 had an outstanding action so smooth and snappy even better than ZT bearings can’t describe it. 2 had good flipping and drop free nearly close actions. 1 had an ok action in both regards. 1 is almost without a decent at all. And two of them won’t center at all while maintaining a good flipping/closing action.

Agreed inconsistent if flipping is your most important thing get something else. Unless it’s one of the new models.
