Best value for the $$$?

I think the VG10 Centofante and Native are better deals than the endura and delica. I also think they look better and are more comfortable.

I vote for the Kabar Dozier (zytel, aus8) as well. I cant imagine anyone could ever complain about any feature of this knife. The blade steel is something you wont find in anything under $40 (nothing I can think of anyway) The heat treat on the blade is top notch. The fit and finish is among the best I have seen in a production folder at any price. And, of course, the amazing price. At $20 each, you could afford to lose, break, whatever. At a low price like that, I could easily imagine just buying a new one whenver your old one gets dull. Spyderco's are all great value for the money, especially the VG10 blades. Nothing too fancy, nothing nessecary left out, nothing unnessecary cluttering up space and money.

I think the Benchmade "PIKA" is a great bang for the buck! It is big enough, strong enough, and priced right. I also like the Benchmade Griptilian, Kershaw Leek, Kabar Warthog, Spyderco Rescue. I have several AK74's and have never had a problem.

But I always thought the "PIKA" was a great deal for what you got. You get a well designed 3.5 inch 440-C blade, 58-60 hardness, easy one-handed opening, good zytel handle, reversible clip, blade comes either plain or serrated and more. Checkout this link.

I think that the best bang for the buck is the Cold Steel Bushman. It's a good knife, sturdy and handy and easy to find for around $14.00

I think that it depends....

If you want a knife with the best blade-steel around, but not so impressive handles, then Spyderco makes some of the very best.
The Endura, Delica, Centofante III, Native, Native III, Atlantic Salt, Pacific Salt, Salt I, Rescue series (and others) are practically impossible to beat.

If you want a knife with very strong and substantial handle construction, but not so impressive blade-steel, then Buck and Camillus and Case make some strong and affordable knives--but the blade-steel is'nt that great (usually 420 or 440A).

There is a company that offers a somewhat happy median between blade-steel and stronger handle construction:
CRKT.
Not all of CRKT knives are that great, but there are a few gems if you look carefully--like the Carson M16 line, M18 (now discontinued), and M21 line.
You can get the M16 with AUS-8 and an aluminum handle, with the Carson flipper, and the Lake and Walker safety (LAWKS), all for a good price.
And the fit-and-finish on them is very good.
The CRKT Elishewitz E-Lock series is also very nice.

And here's something that will probably change the whole situation:
Spyderco will soon be releasing the new Endura and Delica, and I believe that they will have steel liners and all screw-construction and top-notch blade-steel (hopefully at an affordable price).
Handle strength, premium blade-steel, and affordability equals the perfect folder!!!

Good luck and happy hunting,
Allen.

What about the Spydie Caly Jr. with ZDP189 for 79.00? Or did someone else mention this? I didn't read the whole thread. I think this would be an awesome value in a knife under $100.00

Now that Sal mentioned it, I do have a Byrd that I picked up at the SFO for some ridiculously cheap price. It's a very, very solid lockback. Stainless bolsters and micarta scales too, I think.

! Of course the Spyderco Calypso, Jr. was mentioned! But, it NEVER hurts to mention it again!! :O)
