Best Value Knife?

Victorinox Swiss Army Knives are hard to beat, as is the regular Walmart Buck 110.

But I think that the Alaskan Guide Buck 110 (available from Cabela's) is about the best deal around.

For me its got to be the SAK Super Tinker, like baba said, no zombies or CQC but for the suburbs and the office, its got it all - screwdrivers, blades, scissors, awl, toothpick, tweezers. I've got alot of knives like all of us here but I've realized I dont go anywhere w/o it

I just got a Super Tinker yesterday. I have yet to carry it around with me. I got it because it was on the mark down shelf at Walmart.

The best knife that will fill the functions you need that you can afford. Anything else is individual personal preference. As the many post here will attest. No one can decide what is the best for the buck but you-for you.

On an almost humorous note, for me, it is a Loveless Stiff Horn. O-my-god. It's way too high you say? Yep, but I can buy one, carry it for a few years and resell it for a lot more than I gave for it. So not only is it cheap in the long run. Not only do I break even, but I can get paid of using a Loveless or Lovett either one. Now what could be better than that? Unless you can talk some one into giving you one in the first place for free!! Lol!!!

Hard to beat a Kabar Bob Dozier in AUS8 for $16+

I gotta say that for the price you sure get a lot of can-do from SAK. My personal fav is the tinker with an on-line price of ~$16.

Best buy I have found recently is the Mcusta's being sold with the Browning name on them. CDNN is selling the Browning Ice Storms for under $30.00 as a closeout price. I have bought several both for myself and as gifts.

imho the very best knife for the smallest amount of $$ is the spyderco byrds, i have handled a couple and was impressed by them especially for a knife which sells for ~ $30, they are imho a lotta knife for the $$, well made, good warranty, several designs to choose from, if i was gonna carry an inexpensive (not cheap, that just doesnt sound right when speaking about a byrd) knife it would be a byrd.

Well, i just got my Ontario RAT1 folder, being blown out everywhere for $30. this knife is amazing - ultra smooth action, excellent fit and finish, etc. i think this is the best buy out there, although i'm not familiar with all the other suggestions in this thread.

I don't own a lot of good knives (and some of you who reside in the stratosphere of higher-end knife ownership may even question my definition of "good"), but of the knives I've looked at and purchased in the last 2-1/2 years or so, I remain convinced that Spyderco's Delica 4 is a terrific value. I like my other folders, but I think in "bang for the buck" terms, the Delica 4 is the knife to beat.

Another vote for the Spyderco Native. For size, blade steel, price and excellent warranty it is one of the best knife bargains out there.

I think the ZT0200 is one that is often overlooked as a great value. I think that Kershaw could probably tack on another $75.00 to the price, and people would still buy them just as readily. Great fit/finish, great materials, just a great knife that is a real value in my eye's.:)

IMHO, "the best bang for the buck" i.e., the most value for the money spent, is almost any of the Bob Dozier knives.

You get hand ground and sharpened D-2 steel at 61-62 Rc, in a near perfectly fit and finished knife for $200-$300.

To get a knife of equal quality, you'd have to get a custom made knife that would cost $500 or more.

Doziers aren't K-Mart blue light specials, but the value for the price is incredible.:thumbup:

After owning a few high values like the G10 Byrd Flight and Spyderco Tenacious and Natives. I gotta say, the Tenacious is one hell of a deal.
The Native with S30V for under fifty bucks is about the most for the dollar.
But the Flight for 25 bucks, with the EXTREME level of fit and finish on mine, that tops them. The thing is fit together like a Stradivarius. For what, less than a quarter tank of gas?

(skateboarding drunk at 2am).

I thought I was the only one around here doing that :D

Most my picks have been mentioned. Victorinox, Mora, Byrd, Tenacious etc. If they count I'd add my Fiskars Hatchet. Excellent performance for its price. I'd also add the Boker Trance, Spyderco Centofante 3 (Easy to overlook this one) and my Queen D2 stockman has impressed me for its price point.

Regarding the Skyline, Powernoodle you might find this video useful?

I push the flipper in towards the pivot then back towards the rear of the handle and it snaps open very easily for me.

The Skyline is a good knife for the money. I prefer opening holes and Spydercos sense of ergonomics myself though.

The best inexpensive pocket folder - as a cutting tool - is the Buck 110. If it's 'too much', consider it's little sibling - #503 Prince. Both are wood handled lockbacks - with quite decent cutting blades. Both are $25 from Wally Worlds.

In an assisted opener in the same price range, consider the pocket dynamo Kershaw Scallion. If more money is available, the Leek is nice - and the Blur is hefty-nice. The Spyderco S30V Natives were a fluke at $40 at Wally World - and a steal. They are a good value at $75+ now - I love my pair of them - handy EDC. Everything I've mentioned is US made.

+1 on that. Got one this week for around $25. Been EDC'ing it since. Great knife for the price IMO.

Vivi, I agree with you about the Fiskars hatchet:thumbup:

I often take a mini Fiskars hatchet with me on day walks, small enough to strap on the belt or pack but it's an excellent little chopper for batoning or making kindling, quick, safe efficient and cheap to buy.

I vote for the Delica4. Great knife for the price :) And I've been wanting a native and centofante3 for a while now, just haven't got around to it. My SAK rucksack is also excellent, and I think the leatherman wave is definitely worth it's price also (though a different range).
