I'm looking for a good compact flashlight on a college student budget to replace my Bushnell one in my pack. Any pro tips on the brightest light with decent life? I'm not looking for super cheap or anything. I know what a good light costs and I'm willing to pay it (or ask for it a birthday gift :D) but want a light that will be the best you can get for the money.

My present light:

Only 30 lumens. :(

Thanks a bunch, guys!

+1 on the countycomm Josh suggested.Great little lights.up to 190 lumens for around $40.

Also like to suggest the Fenix TK10.I got one for around $60.It has 2 settings-60 or 225 lumens. The high setting will throw the beam up to 200 meters.

+1 on the countycomm maratac lights...there are a bunch of threads on these lights on the forums and everyone who has one says they are awesome for the money. Mine should be in today or tomorrow.

I also hear so many great things about the Fenix TK10 lighs....probably be my next light I get.

You should check out www.candlepowerforums.com and look at the LED forums.

For something you can put on your keychain or in your watch pocket, the AAA Fenix E01 at $15 is a great bargain, great run times, compact size and great design.

A few things to think about, what type of batteries do you want to use?
How much do you want to spend? (flashlights can get expensive)
How big/overall size of light?
What do you want the light to do and how would you like the beam pattern to be?

A few to look at are, Surefire, Malkoff, Nitecore, Olight, Fenix, and if you like doing things yourself modding maglites is really fun.

I would like it to take either AA or CR123A batteries (AA a bonus, but not critical by any stretch of the imagination.)

I would like it to be about 3"-5", preferably with a pocket clip so it may be comfortably pocket carried, though other sizes will be considered if they provide a good value.

I'm going to be using it mostly for general purpose viewing, so something relatively versatile would be nice. I'm not really looking for it for specific tasks or anything.

:thumbup:My wants were similiar & the Fenix TK10 fit the bill @ $60

This one is a beauty 2 d cell batteries and an old fashioned light bulb. I carry it on my keychain:D

If you don't mind a light with a 5.9" body, the Fenix LD20 should be a nice versatile light at a reasonable price. I have the older L2D and love it . Fenix store and 4sevens are selling the Q5 edition for $62.

Fenix flashlights are bad ass. I have the L1D model. It only takes one AAA batery. It cost me 40 something with shipping.

It has a turbo mode that will blind anybody. Like having the power of the sun in your pocket. It is also highly water resistant -not to diving specifications, but in any outdoor whether, it can handle.

I got an iTP C10R about a week ago and I'm liking it a lot so far. There are a few things to criticize (the beam on mine could be better and the advertised brightness levels don't seem right), but it's a good value at just over $40.

go back to my post. they have 3 different bodies you can use AAA, 2AA or 123's. you can interchange them.. i really like this light.

It looks like it'll be either that one or the Fenix tk10 so far! :D

shoot, for the price and the extra body is only $10 more you are getting 3 flashlights for 70 bucks.. not too damn shabby if you ask me. if you need the extra battery length then use the 2AA body or the 123, if you want concealment or just something smaller use the AAA body.. cant lose

Energizer 1AA, found at auto parts stores on the battery carousel. Target sold out this spring, and a flashlight forum spoke well of them. I bought one at work and run rechargeables on it.

It's possibly a Nuwai, has a single 45 lumen LED, clicky tailcap with rubber button, machined aluminum body, pocket clip, and is anodized. Good points: 2 hour run time, compact, hard to drop, plenty of light when dayblinded and needing light walking into a dark basement. The old Arc AAA didn't do so well. Not so good: the clip can bend if hooked, and the anodizing isn't miliary grade. For less than $20, that's common.

I've used mine for five months, it puts out a lot of light for the money, and I haven't broken it yet dropping it on concrete or asphalt. It has good throw and brightness, again, enough to see things. I use it to look into engine compartments in bright sunshine, and you can find things in the darker recesses with no problem. It takes at least 30 lumen to do that.

Google it on candleforums, I'm happy I did. You don't have to pay $$ for a cool internet toy.
