I am lookinf for a neck knife, primarily for general utility, but also for defense.

I looked at CS, but they seem to be, contrary to CS style, sorta flimsy.

I like the Livesay Woo, but would have it made with a double grind. It has a good sheth, too, which is a must.

Opinions? Also, by value priced I meant nothing more than 50 bucks.

Newt will double grind a Woo for you. I also highly recommend Newt's NRGS. The blade shape is a bit more utilitarian than the Woo.

CRTK has a MDP modified Drop Point With a double grind. Don't let the Drop point fool you. This thing has a hell of point.

Check out Allen Blade (someone help me out with a new URL) or Mike Murphy at Running Dog.

Newt double ground a woo for me. It's great. For utilitarian use I like the LP better. You can't beat the price.

I looked at Running dog, but their designs are almost identical to Newt's, and his are cheaper.

What is this about Titanium Woos? If they are around, that would be very kewl.

I think I am going with the Woo. I now have a new question: Should I get the Micarta handles, or stick with a wrapped para cord? I want it to look nice, but I don't want the handles to be so big that it ruins the slim profile of the knife.

Thanks for all the advice.

I would suggest the Emerson La Griffe.
It's small, lightweight and has defense potential way beyond it's size (in my not-so-humble opinion

I really like it!

I bought the Cold Steel Mini Tac. I don't know if this is the one you referred to as 'flimsy', but mine sure isn't. Good sheath too.

That didn't stop me from ordering a new neck knife from Allen Blade though. Be sure and check our Chiro's review. Lotsa good choices there.

I bought a Running Dog "Wharncliffe" from Michael at the Oregon Knife Show, and enough though I carry it in a horizontal cross-draw, instead of the neck carry option, I find that I don't even feel the knife on my belt. I have been using it at work on a daily basis, and there is no doubt that I will be ordering more knives from RDK. Great Bang for the Buck.

The best value in neck knives are Newt Livesays and if you don't believe me just ask

Here is Newt's web site http://members.tripod.com/~Newt_Livesay/index.html and his chat forum http://server3.ezboard.com/blivesayknives

I've got 2 of Newt's knives a Woo neck knife that's fablous and a Air Assualt.

Visit Newt's web site and see what you think

Dear Stiletto Raggio...I must protest!

I don't think that our original designs look at all like Mr. Livesays work...Please take a closer look...

As to cost, I would be happy to sell you a Chinese made Tanto for $10 and make %500 on the deal...

As to value, well that's a different issue...consumers deside that after the sale...

Whether I was unclear or simply misinterpreted is up to others to decide, but wat I mwant when I said that the Running Dog knives looked like Livesay's are that the Personal tanto and Traditional Tanto look very much like, and have nearly the same stats as Mr. Livesay's Woo. 7 inches, 3 inch single ground tanto blade... almost the same stats.

I am not questioning the quality of your knives, as I have never handled or used one, but I am sure they are of the utmost quality, otherwise they would not have been suggested to me. It is, however, an undeniable fact taht I can get a cord-wrapped Woo for half as much as a Traditional Tanto.

And about the $5 Chinese tanto bit, I hope that you are not saying that Mr. Livesay produces poor quality knives.

Both of your knives have come highly recommended to me, but in my current financial state, I have to go with the lower priced Woo.

And finally, If I insulted you, or you thought I was saying that you stole Mr. Livesay's designs, I assure you that it was not my intention to make you think that.

I own a Livesay Woo but I still have to say that the TOPS Street Scalpel is a better value at $30 than a $27 Livesay Woo. As to the Running Dog designs, I see a difference just from the pictures. The tanto looks very different from the Woo. This is not a condemnation of Livesay's work but I think there are better values in neck knives IMHO.
In any case since you have made up your mind already I hope you enjoy your purchase.

I was merely pointing out the unique designs that Running Dog is presenting to the market...Please understand this is the essence of our business and if find me overprotective, I hope you can understand...

Your comments encoraged me to actually go to Newt's website and take a look around, my first time...I liked what I saw and later read some good reviews of his knives...I'm sure he's very good at what he does...

I just met Newt recently at the Oregon knife show when he came to my table, and just for the record I have nothing but good things to say about his work...Believe me I no need to trash talk anyone

The crack about the cheaply made tanto was that a knife like that will work fine for most people...and would be the best "value" Didn't mean to offend...

When you go to a semi-custom maker like Newt or Allen Blade or myself, you get to choose from a range of price, performance and features to suit your needs...

I understand your $$ situation all to well myself...Better to buy a good tool like the "Woo" for $30 and enjoy it's value by using it...

Sorry if I wasn't clear

Running Dog:

I understand why you are protective of your designs. It would be like someone going to a painter and saying he ripped off Picasso just because he uses a canvas and oil paint. I, too, need to learn the smilies better. Right now I only know one kind.

I am also aware that knifemakers are generally a friendly bunch, and I am glad to see that you aren't afraid to admit that a competitor is highly skilled. That really says something aobut your character.

BTW, can anyone produce a URL for outdoor edge?
