Best way for hidden tang

Hi all!

What is the best way to attach a hidden hand blade to antler, and what is the best antler to use for it? I've read the boil method and soaking so the pith is soft to push the tang into, but I don't want to wait that long for it to be a useable blade. I am only working with basic basic hand tools in my apartment on the floor so my resources are limited.

Any advise is appreciated!

Thanks!

Drill a hole for the tang down the antler. The tang is glued in the antler and a single pin locks it all together. The best stag is sambar stag.

That's what I thought and was leaning toward doing. I like the idea of the traditional pith as a "glue" but I don't have the patience for that. Thanks for the input!

While the "hot tang into the pith" method is used occasionally, the vast majority of quality stag knives have had the pith drilled out (either partially or completely) and use epoxy to hold the tang in solidly. This allows the stag roll or crown to be used basically like a block of wood would be used, and fitting bolsters and spacers is much easier.

On a large piece of stag with lots of pith, some folks remove it all and fit a wooden core in. I find that unnecessary, and just fill it with epoxy resin. You can even remove all the pith and fill the hole solid with the resin, and then drill the resin for the tang hole.
