After a LOT of reading over on the mod section, Seems like painting, staining, and burning are the preferred methods.

What do you guys prefer and why? Dont have a torch setup currently, and very much doubt I can do it with a lighter lol.

I've done several knife handles with a hand propane torch (very lightly) then lightly sand and stain with Old English Dark Scratch Remover and wipe dry.
Worked very well for me.

That's the fun part about finishes on wood... no 2 finishes will be the same...
I have had the same method turn out very different just because of wood hardness, in fact...

I use Fiebings leather dye to colour my hawk hafts and bone for knife handles and red tail antlers and moose antlers, I love the stuff. You can do simulated curly by using two dye colours, Fun. ;-)) If you look at my post in the "official hawk" thread I think most of the handles on the hawks I posted are done with Fiebings.

Best regards

Robin
