Best way to carry a leatherman!!! (pic)

I think that is a great idea! the leather sheath is nice, but can be a pain to snap and unsnap sometimes. never thought of a mag holster! Will it work for a micra? I got my dad a micra last fall, and he loves it, but wants a little sheath so it doesn't wear out his pockets of his dress pants. Gotta talk to Gary Graley again!

Jason,
What a great idea! Do you have a website where you can get one of these?

relic,
You seem to be eager to be a critic. If you continue along this line, you can probably expect little in the way of support from fellow forumites and most likely you will be flamed. It's a great community here. People try to be supportive and they have a low tolerance for unwarranted sarcasm. Jason's post was excellent (IMO). I'm amazed that such a post would attract such sarcasm.

Hey Guys!
Sorry to be slow to respond . . . as a pastor I'm kinda busy on Sunday mornings! I appreciate you guys and hope there was NO implied "judgement" in the title of my post. There just wasn't room to write "Best way to carry a leatherman unless your easily offended and tend to take things in an overtly negative way" [Next post I'll try to be more careful]

I have tried to find these on the web, including the De Santis site. They just have them grouped as accessories. It is called a "secure magazine carrier" on the package and I assume is "double stack" as it lists the sig 226,228 and other double stack pistols. It's model # is A47BJGGzO

I have not found a site that sells them individually. I picked it up at a local gunstore and it seems that they are available in tan too. I do have "stock" sheaths for my leathermans in leather and nylon BUT just as Eric posted, what if you don't have a belt on? Also, as a pastor, what if I want to take it off before I preach and don't want to have to undo my belt in church!?!
I bought a horizontal kydex sheath from Eric first and it was great! One of my sound men "adopted" it. I also spoke with Gary Graley (great guy!!) and he did not make them with metal clips on the back.
SO, this is IMHO the best rig I have tried and works GREAT!! (Is that less controversial?)

now, in a later post:
I find no harm in making an "off the wall" comment to a totally frivolous theme.

it was my impression that you felt jason was being somewhat arrogant in his assertion that his was the best way to carry a multitool.then you remark that this was a totally frivolous theme! is this not somewhat arrogant? referring to his post as a frivolous one? apparently, it was not so frivolous as to keep you from posting.after all, you obviously are a very busy individual, having only posted 17 times since jan.
i'm outta here, refusing to have a battle of wits with an unarmed individual...

btw, i really like it also, jason.

Pastor, don't let the trolls get you down.

You Leatherman carrier looks really cool, even though I'm not totally warmed up to the idea of an open top carrier.

What I like the best is the clip feature. Years ago I made a sheath for a lockback folder using the small sheath kit from Tandy, and attached their heavy duty clip instead of the belt loop. Gives a sheath "grab & go" versatility, and you can clip it on any available edge. Of course, this was before I discovered belt-clip equipped folders. I lost the knife, in the sheath, during a move a few years ago. (not due to the clip, it just got thrown out somehow)

The original leather sheath is functional, but uuugggly. "Leatherman" stamped across in gold ink ?? yuck. They should do a simple embossing like Buck or Schrade. Much classier. Perhaps in the beginning, the name in gold was good advertising, but now it's passe.

PS: nice lanyard too !

Actually, I've noticed that the newer Leatherman sheaths are a "cheaper" seeming leather than the old ones. I've had no problems with mine (old), but the new ones my coworkers have come unsnapped more easily, and wear through faster. That said, it would be awful nice to have the convenience of a belt-clip instead of a loop. Thanks for the suggestion.

Actually, i prefer belt loops....

I've had far too many experiences of losing things to trust something that can slide off...

Besides, i rarely take my belt off

Nice idea Jason, i can see how it would really suit some people, it's just not for me - I also like the pouch top.

That looks like a great rig for Leatherman carry. If I get you right, the open top isn't a problem because the Kydex insert is holding it? I too like clip-ons for summer carry, shorts and all (no belts). I've got a great G2 sheath that I'm going to miss when Summer gets to us down here (110+)

Actually, I think I have come up with a great carry system for my leatherman....horizontal carry in a concealex belt buckle! I ACTUALLY USE my leatherman daily and find the buckle far easier and more comfortable than any other method I've tried.

Right Brandon!

It is hard to describe but the DeSantis has a Kydex "spring" that presses against the back of the tool. This pic shows it with two m-16s and an EDI Genesis1 hanging from it without the tool coming out. (I must admit that this was borderline to pulling it out)
If you look closely, you can even see the bandage on my pinkey from my "Newbie gets cut" post!!

Good Idea! I'm always a fan of open top, hate to mess with flaps or straps.

Thanks for the idea! and it looks like it works well too, gotta love that!

like the idea, as when the tool gets a lot of use, you just want to be able to grab it, use it and slip it back in, and know it is secure. plus, us brits have a lot of spare mag pouches floating about since our pistols were banned!
Bill, what is a flamer? and, since it sounds like a derogatory term, why should they necessarily come from England?
just curious.
cheers,

Great idea Jason! I work in a secure Federal building and have to go through the metal detector everytime I enter. The codura pounch I'm using for my wave is getting a little ragged. I like the idea of being able to unclip and then put it right back. Only problem is that is a (gasp!) magazine pouch! Most of the guards here are O.K. but I have had a Spydie Dragonfly and a SAK Classic confiscated for the day by some of the overzealous ones. BTW, you think they make one to fit that machete I'm buying from you?

Phantom,
Somehow I doubt it!! However, it would be fun reading about you in the news for trying to get in the bldg. w/ a 22" blade . . . now THAT'S a KNIFE!!!
BTW I sharpened up one of those Martindales . . . GREAT BLADE! I think you'll like it
P.S. I don't think ANYONE would recognize it as a mag pouch as it fits so well.
