Best way to clean tree sap?

I've used paint thinner before and it works like a charm on tree sap. I used it to get a whole crap load of sap outta my leg hair. Worked awsome and if it didn't kill me after cleaning my leg with it im sure your knife will be fine :D

(to add: To anyone thinking im a compleat idiot for using paint thinner on bare skin, I only used small amounts on a rag and washed with soap and water directly after )

Meh, I used to wash my hands in gasoline. It's not strictly good for you, but it works well for saps And dried on paint. As long as your not swimming in it, it's not going to kill you. Makes that first cigarette after work interesting though...

Would olive oil work as well? Going to be helping with some tree hunting in the morning and have always been annoyed with sap on my hands (usually handle blade with any of my usual oils) but I don't really feel comfortable cleaning my hands with remoil :p The Italian in me hopes olive oil would do the trick nicely :D

Well...it is an oil, isn't it? ;)

Yes, olive oil will work fine--and it'll moisturize cracked and chapped hands! :D

Hand sanitizer works very well. I had sap all over my carhartt work pants, so I rubbed a hand sanitizer on the worst spots and the sap simply dissolved.

+1. I volunteered at a Christmas tree stand last weekend and that's what we used to clean our hands off. Literally dissolves the sap right off. Worked great on my Emerson too.:D

saps are fat soluable. this means fat will dissolve them so put some food oil or butter on there and rub it for a few minutes. you dont need that chemical crap

yes any food oil. like i said its fat soluble. it takes a minute of rubbing just be patient. maybe add a little salt for abrasion.
