Hey all finally bout finished with my first knife. Thought i'd pick the brains of the masters here. It is a mortised tang knife with micarta handles. Question is,What is the best way to finish the handle?,a nice shiny smooth look would be nice, but i'm not sure how to accomplish this. Is it even possible or practical with limited tools? I swear ill post pics when its finished, lol

I usually bead blast it. You can just lightly blast it at 60 psi or you can crank that puppy up to 120psi like Emerson does on his customs and chew the crap out of it for some good looks and grippy texture.

If you cut the scales oversized a mite and shoe shine them with some slack belt on the grinder followed up by hand you can feather the appearance and then blast it or sand it down progressively to a finer and finer finish and buff it to a nice gloss. Its pretty versatile stuff.

Personally though I don't think there is anything at all wrong with the blasted Micarta finish on a user knife. If its a show piece you may want to go the buffer route.
