I got a new para2 in the mail yesterday and promptly dulled it cutting a tarp off a dump trailer. I came home to sharpen and discovered the sharpmaker can't sharpen it. I did the sharpie method and found that the grind on the left side is making contact on the shoulder at 40 degrees. What is the best way to fix this?

I had an Endura wave come from the factory with a mismatched bevel angle like that too.

It will take you an eternity to try and reprofile that S30V blade with your grey rods on your sharpmaker.

I ended up buying the diamond rods and they worked very well. You don't need to put much pressure but they take the steel off much faster.

Reprofile your Para 2 down on the 30 degree side using the diamond rods until the sharpie method tells you that you have corrected both bevels to the same angle. Then sharpen as normal on the 40 degree side and you are back in business. You won't regret the diamond rods, they make reprofiling any blade much faster, or even just sharpening any of these very tough new steels is much quicker when you start with some strokes on the diamonds first.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks. Haven't had much experience with s30v just 154cm and the stuff you get in kershaws. Kinda wishing I'd ordered the diamonds yesterday instead of the ultra fine. That was before I realized the grind problem though:( I did have a delica with a beautiful factory grind on it, too bad the rest of the knife had issues. I did it on the sharpmaker with just the fines and it was sharpppp. I cut myself with it:)

I sharpened the para2 this morning by holding it not vertical, but 15 degrees or so off the stone so I still caught the edge, not hair popping because of lack of perfect holding but it will shave with pressure. Good enough for a working knife which this will be. I'm going to stop carry a razor blade around and work and make this knife do what was intended. It works great! It wouldn't shave after that tarp but would slice paper like crazy.

How does the wicked edge do on spydercos? 50 shipped for the diamonds is quarter of the wicked edge. Figure if I get that then I can stick a 30 on anything I want then sharpmaker heaven! Plus, from the way it looks like it works I'd be sharpening everything in the neighborhood.

Your gonna need to reprofile the main bevel.

If you dont wanna spend the money on the diamond rods you can always wrap the stones with sand paper.
I've been doing it this way for years now. Cheap and fast!

The sandpaper is a great idea! Nice photos too.

That said, I still like the diamond rods and think they are worth the money, especially if you like using the Sharpmaker (assuming the diamond rods last a long time which I don't know about yet as I haven't had them very long). But if they are anything like DMT's, they should last a long time. I've done quite a bit of reprofiling with them and they really work well. They are fast but not too fast. Just right, imo.

Btw, if you do decide to go for the diamond rods, you can find them for quite a bit less than $50 shipped at Amazon.
