Best way to "get a Sebenza"

So, if "someone I know" were considering getting a Sebenza, what is the best route to take "so I can advise this unnamed person"?

They seem to be pretty much price fixed so I'm not sure if there is a best way. Do you go with someone who has the knife in stock now? I assume all Sebenzas will have perfect F&F including action, blade centering, lockup, etc. since they are manufactured/assembled in a custom sort of way in so far as claimed attention to detail and warranty. So who you got it from shouldn't really matter much I would think. Maybe go with a dealer who has one you want (large) in stock and who is closest to you for a short shipping wait?

Do you go through a dealer or directly via CRK?

Also, what is the consensus between the original classic (maybe hard to get?) and the 21?

This person has some very sought after Spyderco's he thought about selling to finance this experiment but he also knows if the Sebenza isn't his cup of tea it should sell fast and for a minimal loss thus saving the wonderful Safe Queens.

Thanks for your advice so I can "advise this friend" :D

Look for a used one here in the exchange. Keep an eye on the bay.
If it's scuffed up send it in and for refurb at their spa.
I picked up a small Reg. off the bay for $225.
Personally, my favorite is the Reg. in small or Lg. But they're all good.

I bought my 21 from knifeworks. They have both 21's in stock, also if you want a regular Mooreknives.net has them in stock.

I bought my small 21 in late October directly from CRK. It arrived about 2 weeks after I placed the order. I wouldn't think it matters where you purchase it from as long as it's a reputable dealer.

As already mentioned you can't really go wrong with a used one either since you can get it refurbished anytime.

I wanted dual thumbstuds on mine, so I bought it directly from CRK.

I think most of the online dealers all sell at the same price so you should have a good selection to choose from. I found TNK to stock quite a few.

+1

I wanted a large double lug micarta 21, I could find large micartas all over.. But none double lug. So I ordered from CRK, it was about a month wait.

If this "guy" :D wanted a better price I would say look on the bay, or exchange here. Other then that the prices are fixed and that's what protects your investment should you want to sell later.

I like the 21 better... And like inlaid 21s even more so. the regular is nice, but the 21 has more of a finger guard that's feels a tad better in the hand. Also INHO the fighter style blade is a tad more usefull than the big belly the regular has.

All in all both are great choices ;)

I made a vid on YouTube for large VS small. Still gotta make a 21 vs reg vid... But my computer is dead! And I can't save money(for a new puter) for buying knives :D

As for 21 vs classic, the 21 looks better IMHO because of the lack of type on the backside if the pivot. Also the 21 is a little more rounded all the way around VS the classic. Then you have the pivot area on the 21, it's laid back much more than the classic. They say it's to go in your pocket a little better. I think it does not matter either way, but I do like the look better. YMMV

Do not sell your rare Spydies, believe me as much as I LOVE my sebbies I sure do miss my plain Lil temp, SE Lil Temp, rino horn 440v Lil Temp.. And many others. :o

I bought my small classic here in the exchange area about 4 years ago. I bought it for $220 at 3am about 4 mins after it was posted. Keep an eye out for good deals.

somewhere with free shipping such as knivesshipfree.com also TNK.com has a great selection and is a great place to buy from just my 2 cents

Thanks for the help, everyone. I'll consult with my "friend" and make a decision!

For me the exchange was the way to go. I knew that if I bought one that was minty I wouldn’t be able to bring myself you use it.

The best way to get a Seb is when someone gives one to you :D

I suffer from that same disease on some knives. The exchange seems logical in that regard ;)
