Whats the best way to put my name/mark on the knives I make. I'm not looking for the cheapest way but the best looking and clearest way for a simple name. Probly just put my last name, since it's unusual enough,
on the blade. Thanks

I favor having a stamp made up with whatever you want to put on your blades, and stamping them before heat treat. For simple designs like a name it's cleaner, neater and more permenant than any of the etching processes I've seen.

I know this will cause a stir, but I think stamping or etching ones name on a custom knife looks commercial and detracts from the beauty of the knife. I prefer to use an electric engraver and sign my work somewhere it doesn't stand out so much like the tang behind the guard on the bottom side or the spine.

Knifemaker Alex Daniels makes a great etcher for about $100.00. IMG in Utica, NY has the acid and stencils. They are pretty inexpensive, and you can have mutiple designs. If you etch a blade, it goes deep into the metal and becomes very permanent.
