Purchased a Bradley alias to use as a beater instead of my sebenza....tied a lanyard on it and now the only thing bothering me is the Bradley Cutlery logo on the front of the blade...

How can I remove this without screwing up the blade finish??

I've heard of people using a scotchbrite pad, but I use sandpaper for removing blade coatings. There are several different methods, it's just up to you and what's available :)

Wouldn't sandpaper scratch the finish though?

Is there some kind of polishing agent or something that will only take the ink or whatever it is off and leave the blade unblemished?

There is a chemical agent, but I'm unsure of what it is. Someone will chime in that does though ;)

the logo is laser eched, you'll have to remove a lot of material to get rid of it.

On black coated blades, even after I completely sanded off the coating the script remained.
I would suggest that you just leave it on there.

Buy some maroon scothbrite sheets (9"x6"). Cut sheets into 6" circles and punch a 1/2"
hole in center. Put 3 to 5 cut out 6" dia. circles on a grinder or buffer. It will put a beautiful satin finish on the blade. With some pressure you can remove the laser logo.
Take it easy and be careful.

the only option to remove the laser etching on a blade is to have a satin finish put on with a belt sander. even with a belt sander it can take some time to get down past the laser etching.

It's going to be tricky; ask yourself if it's worth the trouble. It's not painted on, it's etched.

I've got access to a sandblaster?

Would that do the trick?

What kind of finish would be left on the blade?

you wouldnt want to sand blast the blade but glass bead it. sand is too coarse. the logo would still be there.

You might as well try live with it bro cuz you're going to have to take a ton of metal off. Like someone above said, you just need to figure out if it is going to be worth the hours you put in because it will take a long time with the materials it sounds like you have and if you decide to stop doing it when you're a quarter of the way done its not going to be pretty. Whats wrong with the bradley logo anyway? Its not like you're going to trick yourself or anyone else into thinking its a sebenza.

Well I found a belt sander @ Work and decided to give it a try....it only had 320 grit paper on it and I couldn't find anything higher, so I just said the hell with it and went to work...

15 minutes later I was done.

Did both sides and smoothed everything out.

Was kinda shiny, so I threw it in a coffee can filled with broken glass to rough it up a bit.

I like how it turned out...but I might trace the shape of the sebenza onto this blade and re profile it to the sebenza profile.

I was going to bead blast the finish, but out blaster was out of commission...will have to wait a few weeks to do that.
