Best way to remove writing on Alias Blade

In the top pic of your last two, the spine of the blade looks far darker than it did before.
It may be that your grinding has caused some burning of the steel. If so, you have probably removed/negated the heat treat. Did you dip the blade in any water to keep it cool?

I didn't notice this post until just now, but in case others want to do the same thing, one way would be to hold the blade with a magnet and using a disc grinder with a 600 grit disc you can remove the logo. Then still holding the blade with the magnet, handsand it on 600 or finer grit paper on a flat surface (eg. a glass table top).

Alternatively, you could handsand (holding the blade with a magnet) on 400 grit wet/dry paper, followed by 600 -using WD-40.

Doing this, the flats are hand-rubbed to 600 grit, while the bevels are stonewashed.

Dipped it in a bucket of water whenever it got even a tiny bit warm, and the spine looked darker because of the false edge and it wasn't as polished.

When I compare those pictures to the ones from the first post, I think you have just ruined a perfectly good knife.

I Agree 100% .. I would have left it alone, Different Stokes for different Folks I guess... as long as the OP is happy guess thats all that matters....

I'm glad you're happy with it, that's what matters, well that and it can still cut. :D

Ignore the "ruined a great knife" guys, it's your knife, it still cuts and you just took a swing at personalizing it on your own, something even most knife nuts wouldn't dream of.

wow...finally some positive feedback.

Tough crowd these days...

Anyways...

Reprofiled it to a more sebenza-esk style.

Blaster is still down....so in the mean time I thought i'd try my hand @ polishing.

Sat down with some 400 grit sandpaper and hand polished it...

Couldn't find any 600-2000 grit, so I am going to pick some up tomorrow and keep on the polishing, hoping to be mirror finish when i'm done.

Crappy photos provided by Lg Tritan in low light with no flash...

If i used it now it would make a decent butter knife. lol

If you are set on bead blasting it and you think your cabinet will be down for awhile I will blast it for you :)

P.S. I actually like the way it's comming along almost has a convex look to it....besides I'm not too fond of swedges anyhow

Thanks for the offer!!...It shouldn't take too long, someones coming in tomorrow to take a look at it.

I am also not very fond of swedges....

If you did a Krein regrind to a full flat blade, would that work?

I have the same issue with the Alias as you. I am sure this sounds stupid to some people, but I would like to get one, but that name logo really turns me off. Once I get into the $200 range or higher, aesthetics are equally as important to me as function. I have the same problem with the Doug Ritter logo on his knives.

I prefer plain blades like on my Sebenza and SnG, or blades with logo's that I think are "cool" like the Spyderco spider, the BM Butterfly, the Krein symbol, etc.

Because he wants to use the Alias? :p

My guess is he wants his TI frame lock more up to par with his expectations.

I tweak knives as well looks like a good start.

S30V is a PITA to mirror polish, I can say it from personal experience, and I've only seen one guy who got it to mirror.

I think he said about 6 hours on power tools to achieve it, that's dedication.

Camera is up and running again...

Yes I want to use the Alias.

I will use it and abuse it and tweak it until it is broken and can't be used anymore...

Then I will return to using the Sebenza (left alone for good reasons)

Heres a teaser on the s30v polishing....PITA is an understatement...

Found some 600 grit paper laying around in the basement.

Started with 100, 150, 220, 320, 400, 600
