Best way to restore mirror finish to Kukri

I give mine a good photo shoot when they arrive in the mail then off to the bush they go!

You been in the brush with that giant bowie yet? That right there would be live action!

No. Not yet. But by popular demand i better find something to chop up soon. Maybe ill carve a few jack o lanterns? My wife has been out watching the grandkids while my new grandson and momma get adjusted to home. Id rather wait till she gets home to call 911 if I happen to chop all my digits off or something:D or hell...leg for that matter!

I don't rightly believe I could take that monster on a trip to the brush myself. Whack a few melons, maybe a water bottle or two to let the Bruce Lee out of yourself but whacking on defenseless bushes just to whack on em, not sure I could do that.

She's a beauty. I've had a few dreams about that thing in a Pugs sheath on my back with the handle just over my right shoulder, no doubt flash backs to my Ninja Turtle days, I loved those guys.

Do be ever so careful with that beast digits, legs, nemo and the twins, it don't know the difference and will whack without remorse.

Might put 911 on speed dial, I wrote it on a sticky note by the phone so I wouldn't forget the number when I need it.

Reminds me of a home alone experience with my table saw, wait, this isn't Cantina, I'll save that story for another time in Cantina.

+1 on the Ninja Turtles love, Bawanna. I grew up on those guys. I could see Shredder toting the GCB.

Congrats on your new grandbaby, ndoghouse! Maybe a baby-sized Kagas Katne khuk is in order?

One of those mini bowies is next on my list to get now that I have the KLVUK. Do they ever make bowies in villager-grade finishes?

Never seen one myself. The bowie being what it is, it almost deserves a beautiful finish don't ya think?

I too am longing for another 10" Mini and even more so my vision of a micro mini AK Bowie. Sort of the charm bracelet size someone mentioned earlier that I can tote with me always.

I wish I could say I grew with them but I did grow up more watching them with my kids who actually grew up with them.
Dang it, look what you done now, ya got me blabbering again in Aunties showroom away from the Cantina. Somebody get a rope, I'll find a branch. Hopefully a weak branch, don't want to hurt myself.

I hated the Shredder, evil sob that one. Never did get the hankering for pizza like them fella's though, guess I weren't totally brain washed by em.

Thanks philll! got one waiting for him. I have three KK's which all came with villager finish. They are mirror smooth now. Turtles rock! My kids grew up on them too. I grew up with the flintstones! I think the GCB will eventually get a shine to it! There is a small crack in the horn handle so I figure its going to get a shine all over anyway. I think I am going to wait till I get a bench vise first or something other than my leg to clamp it with! It is scarrrrrryy scarrrryyy sharp right now! I want to shave with it before I take it to the bush.

Grew up with Captain Kirk and Airwolf and a bit of Knight Rider and Mc Guyver. But don't try to guess my age from that since these show ran usually a few years later in my home country.
Little advice don't rewatch any serial you liked as a kid by today's standards most of them are c class at best. :o

I made this mistake with the Power Rangers. I died a little inside when I realized just how cheesy it was. I used to love them.

I came to the same conclusion when I decided to watch some cartoons from when I was a kid with my daughter. I think kid's programming is actually much better now.

There's nothing easier than converting a polished blade to villager satin finish if that's what you prefer. Just go over it with steel wool or fine sandpaper until it suits you. Tape the wood or horn to protect it.

HI villagers are not cheaper than polished blades, so it's not a way to save money. The KLVUK, on the other hand, is a "true villager," so HI saves on labor and that translates into a significantly lower price.

Ok, gotcha. I was confusing the KVLUK finish as the "villager" finish. I'm loving my KVLUK so far, it's the perfect size and weight to throw in your pack, and can still take care of your large knife/small hatchet tasks. I soaked the handle in boiled linseed oil overnight. Is it worth rubbing some beeswax on it, or should the BLO be enough?

I keep them in line seed oil until they still look moist after 24 hours not being in the solution. If it doesn't shine for so long it goes back into the oil. After it's soaked enough (sometimes 1 or 2 weeks) I wait until it dries up and rub lanolin on it. It's thick and sticky like grease and I hope it seals in the more liquidy line seed oil. Lanolin takes 3 days to be absorbed.
Also read up on boiled line oil. It's not boiled but has some additives which you might like or not. I use the unboiled version not more expensive but takes longer to dry.
Edit:
Submerging in oil is better than painting on since submerging it will allow the oil to creep into cracks between wood and metal. submerging can be done in a jar. Or I had a ziplock back taped around the handle. That requires less oil and cannot topple. Also you can agitate/massage the oil in through the flexible plastic bag. Disadvantage? Make sure it's taped tight and has no holes :o

I've used boiled linseed on axe handles before, I don't really like how it makes the wood look but it does make for a very tacky grip. I know it has toxic stuff in it to make it dry faster, but I thought most of that dissipated once it dried? I left the handle drip drying this morning, if it looks dry when I get home tonight I'll give it another dunk. The only other oil I have handy is walnut oil, and while it looks very nice, it basically never dries. I used some on a Condor Kephart handle about half a year ago, and it still rubs off on the sheath and my hand.

Is there anything I should be treating the bone handle with? It looks like Mineral oil is recommended, but it yellows the bone. Is there anything that doesn't change the color of the handle? I read of some people using extra virgin olive oil.

I don't know how bone responds to treating. But let us know how it looks, maybe a pic when you're done. I'd like to mirror finish some of mine as well. They're just knives, hunks of steel and bone/wood. Nothing mystical about them, IMO. Do with it whatever you like.

Just knives? Hunks of steel and bone/wood? Nothing mystical? Blasphemy!

I get goosebumps just holding any of my HI Knives. They make me want to be Gurkha. I use em some, they are mostly for show but sometimes I give them a go too. Very special to me though.

I still haven't made it to the auto shop to get what I need to polish this one up, I'll definitely post a picture once I do.

People here say their kukris talk to them. If that's true, this kukri is saying to me "I want to be pretty and hang on a wall for everybody to appreciate me". I'm happy to oblige it and save the hard work for my klvuk
