best way to sanitize a blade?

Most pathogens won't survive in blood that's dried. I'd be more concerned about rust, long term. For whatever reason blood on steel for any period seems to lead to bad rust. Disinfect but try to polish/oil whatever to get rid of it and watch for signs of oxidation.
