Best Werewolf Movie Ever......!

Pretty sad when the best werewolf special effects are from a movie in the 70's. 'American Werewolf in London', hands down.

Rick Baker did a heck of a job with that one. Easily one of the best human to werewolf transformations ever.

I liked Dog Soldiers, Spoons last stand scene is a classic ! :thumbup:

I think I'll have to name "American Werewolf in London" as the best of all time though. I watched it again not so long ago and it was still great, if not even better next to what I'm seeing put out these days.

I loves Spoons character and your right, his last stand was a classic. He threw everything at them but the kitchen sink.....lol. Gotta love Sarge too.
The score was great too, especially Sarge's Theme.
Overall Terrific. You can tell its European because the MPAA here would not let all that blood and guts go.

The Howling is the all time classic. It really defined what a Werewolf should look like. Dog Soldiers is number 2 without a doubt; it launched the career of Neil Marshall one of most talented directors working today. I think he topped Dog Soliders with The Descent the best monster movie since Carpenter's The Thing.

Other good Werewolf flicks (and there are not enough of them): Wolfen, American Werewolf in London and Bad Moon.

P.S. Underworld is a joke, Werewolves shouldn't be computer generated and run along walls. Irritating Matrix crap.

I need to watch more werewolf films! I'm ashamed to admit I've never seen the howling :(

American Werewolf in London is good fun with great effects, I've been in a pub in Derbyshire which I'm sure was the model for the Slaughtered Lamb.
Dog soldiers is excellent too, especially for a low budget film.

I loved The Descent.......Whats funny is, I used to work for a company that made CD's, DVD's Blu-Ray Discs. I was in Blu-Ray the last 4 years I was there. Since it was a new product, we have to watch and QC them for any glitches, freezing up, etc. I was watching The Descent and had NO Idea it was a horror movie. I just thought it was girls lost in a cave because I had never even heard of the movie until I was molding it. I was watching and watching and in the scene when she is standing there and turns around and her flashlight shows the monsters for the first time........I was like WTF.......??? I had to rewind it too see what was going on.........lol. Great movie. The sequel was lacking because you knew what was in store, while in the first one, you did not.

Still LOVE Dog Soldiers. Just an all around great movie. All the characters were great and for a low budget, it just kicked major butt all the way around. Just goes to show you you dont have to spend 100's of millions to make a movie.

Slim pickings in Transylvania, the last I saw was Skinwalkers: a firearms extravaganza, real trash. Of course I watched it, but I grew up watching Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe.

I always go back to The Wolf Man (1941) and the other Universal classics for their intelligent use of music from Tchaikovsky's great ballet.

Don't forget I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957), a minor work but worth knowing (required viewing if you grew up in the 1950s).

The Company of Wolves (1984) was werewolf/gothic bodice-ripper fusion.

My favorite is still The Wolfman with Lon Chaney. My dad let me stay up past my bedtime to watch it when I was about 6. I also put together a plastic model of The Wolfman with a glow in the dark head and hands. I kept it under my lamp, so when I went to bed, it glowed until I fell asleep. I also had models of Dracula and Frankenstein, but The Wolfman was my favorite.
Also, I barely noticed the lycans in Underworld. Kate Beckinsale, DAMN!

Big fan of the werewolf genre in general. The Underworld werewolves were not good, and I hope they have better FX in the new movie. Two of my favorites are American Werewolf in London and Dog Soldiers. A sequel was up in the air for a while, I think they passed on it.

Three favorite scenes from Dog Soldiers, spoilers!:

When the werewolves are trying to get into the house, and the family's dog is in a tug of war with the sergeant's guts;

towards the end when a soldier is beating the hell out of the younger werewolf, and dad, presumably, comes in, and beats the crap out of the soldier, the soldier says "I hope I give you the sh*ts";

when the soldier dispatched to get the four wheeler out of the garage sees the werewolf eating the guy.

Who was the nurse/girlfriend in American Werewolf in London? Pretty good looking.

Got to be dog soldiers best bit is they have the squadies off to a T just like real soldiers :-)
