Best & worst personal/travel light?

I carry an E1E-HA with the KL1 LED head. I love it, very bright, only uses one battery, battery life is great, no bulbs to break or burn out, best throw I have ever seen from an LED, good flood too, lock out tail cap, small size, little weight, protected optics, pocket clip, I could go on and on. I used to carry a Surefire A2 and had a Priceton Tec Scout headlamp in my bag, but this has replaced both of them really. Now I keep the A2 or a Streamlight Scorpion in my truck and keep the strap from the Scout to use with my E1E/KL1 as a headlamp.

Sitting on a boat in the dark on the Forrest River near Wyndam in the far NW of Oz. Ming is leaning over the edge of the boat, looking deep into the river with his Princeton Tech Aurora (I've had this little head lamp for 2 years now and it's been on all my adventures as well as being my reading light of choice at night).

Ming - ' I can't see any crocs Don'

Don - 'Try the spotlight mate'

Don turns on the large spotlight connected to the boats battery.

Ming 'holy snappin arsoles!!'

We are surrounded by a ring of red eyes, some of them so far apar as to suggest a croc of huge proportions. These fellas have refined their hunting technique over millions of years and only need to eat once or twice a year. So they are patient, wating around the boat for one of us to screw up.

ps: The princeton tech is an excellent little light. I carry it in an old sunglass bag to prevent scratching the lens and take the batteries out when I pack it for flying because the switch can be accidentaly triggered when squashed in the bag. The light has been used daily, in hot, wet and humid climates, been muddy, been dropped a few times and it is holding up fine.

In pocket Arc AAA (I stay away from candlepower forums now - Still mourning the loss of ARC)

In bag, DORCY 3AAA One watt LED. It's the same length (bit wider) as a minimagAA, but much brighter and LED! Good deals can be had from Dorcy.

Try the Dorcy 1AAA LED light, like an ARC AAA, but not as durable.

Surefires are great, but the Dorcys are dirt cheap by comparison.

Here we go:

1. Phantom Warrior (Medic's version) - Issued to me last year in Iraq. Goes everywhere with me. Runs on 4 AA's for something like 180 hours, blue light for night vision conservation and medical purposes, plus the white light is adjustable too. Oh it has the added convenience of being used as with NVGs. One of my favs for all around usage. Not as bright as the others so this is more a personal(or personal safety light) depending on the situation.
2. CMG Infinity Ultra - Again goes with me everywhere.
3. Surefire E2e - On deployments and nights out due to extreme lighting capabilities as well as portability.
4. Surefire L2 - Same as above plus it was a gift from someone special.
5. PrincetonTec - Cheap, durable and bright.

These are tops on my list currently but as in all things....subject to change.

Peace,

MedOpsPogue
