Better EDC Blade: Kabar Dozier or Byrd Cara Cara

I think either one would be a solid choice. If you are unsure of which one to get, I would urge you to compare each one physically is possible. Getting a knife in your hand is the surest way to make that decision. For me, I'd go for the Dozier on looks alone unless I could get them in hand.

For a few dollars more, the Spyderco Tenacious ($30-35) is an awesome value! A lot of bang for the proverbial buck :thumbup:

Some other knives to look at are the Buck Vantage Avid (Sandvik 13C26) and the Vantage Select (420HC)

I like the Dozier better, just b/c its a bit thinner and lighter, and my pockets are so full of crap that i'll take whatever bit of extra space I can get. Of course, you won't go wrong with the cara cara, and I'm actually considering getting another to mod with my dremel. JMHO.

Wow you guys bumped an old thread. I can't believe how this addiction has grown within the last... what... half year? I was the OP of this thread like 7 months ago.

I've sold my SS CE Cara Cara that I bought after recommendations from this thread, and purchased a lot of new stuff since then, like a BM Mini Skirmish, Spyderco D2 Paramillie, Caly3, Delica, UKPK, Buck Strider 889 and a Kabar Dozier and am planning to pick up a Sage2 or a Cricket pretty soon.

Can't believe how old this thread is.

Oh, believe me, people have bumped much, much older ones.:rolleyes:

As far as you go, you seem to have been bitten pretty hard by the knife bug!;) You have a great collection growing there.:thumbup::D

I love the Cara Cara, It has awesome ergonomics, My friend got the steel handled one and it's great.
As for the blade steel I think I'd rather have Aus8.
At least comparing my Tenacious to my Aus 8 knives 8cr13mov seems to be a little prone to edge rolling, but maybe it;s just my knife's heat treatment is off.
I think you should get a Ontario RAT1 folder, Flat ground, Aus8, G10 and great design for 28$ what's not to like. I'm going to take mine apart and lighten the liners like nutnfancy did.

Ontario RAT 1 :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
Everyone should own this knife. It should be a prerequisite to owning knives. It is the highest value knife I have ever known to exist. Seriously.:thumbup:

It is one tough folder too. Built like a TANK!

WOW, this thread is from 2008!!! I should have checked the date. But you know what? The RAT 1 still stands alone!

Well I have a Ka-Bar Dozier and a Byrd Raven. I like both of them, but I find the Dozier to be extremely difficult to open with one hand. I need more than a wrist flick. I need to move my entire arm to get it open with one hand, even after I oiled the crap out of it. Maybe it's meant to be like that though, I'm not sure. The Raven though is the easiest knife to open that I have ever owned. I can open it without any wrist action whatsoever; just a light flick of my thumb. So if the Raven is any testament to the Cara-Cara, I would go with that.
